Sheraton Moana Surfrider Beach Bar, Waikiki: SUNSET AT THE BEACH BAR

This is about the outdoor beach bar at the Moana Surfrider. Located inside the Banyan Court, fronting the ocean in Waikiki, it has one of the most spectacular views of the sunset in O'ahu. The bartenders are all topnotch, and very friendly.

The PUU-PUU'S that are available to purchase, are great creations that go well with the many different tropical drinks. It really can mellow one out. After 8 PM the Hawaiian music and dancers are on stage. Never want to leave. Aloha.$s4

Crab wontons are divine. The crispness of the wonton is the secret, but the crab is the reward. Yum! Be careful, because the ambience can drive you to order more than one serving, as well as one more Mai-Tai.

Keoni's: Cheap breakfast and good Thai
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Keoni's is also run by Keo. It is his sister's restaurant.

The Thai food is quite good, the North American food is good and cheap, but the breakfast is very good and cheap.

Service is quite fast, and the people are friendly. Not as upscale as Keo's it is still a great kitchen and a great place to eat.

We ate breakfast there a few times. Jennifer really liked the french toast. It came with an egg and some bacon too, but it was great with the Coconut syrup that they provided. They had maple syrup too, but you can get that anywhere, so you should try local.

I had the late riser breakfast. Bacon, eggs and pancakes without potatoes. I also ate the coconut syrup, what a nice change of pace.

They also got us in and out quite fast, no dallying!

    Duke's: Surfer's Heaven
  • Tip Rating:

  • Yes, it's kind of touristy and it's right in the heart of Waikiki, but the food is decently priced and good, and the atmosphere is FUN, FUN, FUN!! Waiters/waitresses are garbed in Aloha wear, there are pictures of Duke Kahanomoku everywhere, and the bar and several of the outdoor umbrellas are thatched. Service is very friendly. Add to that the fact that there is live Hawaiian music, and it's hard to have a bad time there. My day always goes right when I start with breakfast on the beach and end with relaxing Hawaiian music!

Both the breakfast and the lunch buffets are a mere $10.95. Breakfast includes made-to-order omelettes, Eggs Benedict, pancakes & waffles, bacon, sausages (even linguica!), seasonal fruits, cereals, yogurt, & baked muffins & breads. For lunch, you can count on a huge salad bar, grilled mahi mahi, grilled teriyaki chicken, & kalua pork & cabbage. I'm a fiend for their potato salad. For dinner, their fresh fish can be served 5 different ways -- baked "Duke's" style, hibachi-style teriyaki, grilled island style, roasted firecracker, or sauteed Mac nut and herb crusted.

  • There is a family atmosphere at these restaurants.
The food is dynamite and it is a fun place to take your appetite Also here in Honolulu it is right next to and below the Ward Theaters and along with many other places to check out. Best new restaurant - Honolulu Magazine. Specializing in Immigrant Southern Italian food, served family style . Their portions are legendary .the huge family-size platters of food and the family parties who crowd the place on weekends. Really good, down-home food.

I love most of them. Any of the Chicken is great. Not excited about the spaghetti I have eaten there.

    Roy's: Roy's in Hawaii Kai
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Great food. Maybe a little more expensive. But if you are willing the taste is worthwhile.
Roy comes up with some cool recipes. All for the sake of his wanting to share good food with whom ever comes to his restaurant.
He has a few in different locations, but this is home for him. In order to truly appreciate a meal at Roy's, you need to understand a little of what Executive Chef Roy Yamaguchi has accomplished. Back in the mid-eighties, even the nicer restaurants in Hawaii were serving classic but uninspired cuisine using ingredients flown in from afar. Roy Yamaguchi was one of a small handful of young chefs to shake up the status quo. They created a new class of cuisine, called "Euro-Asian," "Hawaiian Regional Cuisine" or "Hawaiian Fusion," that combined Asian dishes, French techniques and fresh, local ingredients.

The shrimp is Ono !!!!!! Actually anything Roy Yamaguchi cooks is pretty tasty!!!!!!!

In Waikiki, there are many unpredictable restaurant experiences. Unless you are willing to shell out BIG bucks at the expensive hotels or go to Chilli's, it will be hit and miss for dinning experiences locally.

We will list a few places that have great food and reasonable prices on our site. Keo's is at the top of the list.

Keo's makes Thai food at reasonable prices with great service. It is always busy. We have been there a few times and we are always impressed.

The Thai Red Curry is great and well packed with White meat only. The Pad Thai is one of the better ones out there and the skewers come with tons of Satay sauce.

Banyan Veranda: Perfect for a Group Meal with Cozy Ambiance!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Banyan Veranda in Moana Surfrider is a very peaceful restaurant, famous for its Sunday Brunch and traditional High Tea Service each afternoon beneath the banyan tree. This is a lovely multi-purpose patio area in the classically elegant Moana Surfrider Hotel. Guests relax in rattan armchairs beside a stately banyan tree that was planted in 1904.Banyan Court is the center of activity at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. The hotel, like the huge tree shading the courtyard, is more than 100 years old and is reminiscent of Waikiki's early days. This open-air spot is no doubt one of the best for people-watching and enjoying the views of Diamond Head. A multitude of flower-shirted tourists and bikini-clad beauties line the beach in front of the hotel.

An extensive appetizer menu is available most of the afternoon and evening. One of the highlights here is the tea service. It is followed by a four-course prix-fixe dinner featuring the Pacific Rim cuisine of chef Ralph Bauer. The sort of experience that draws people to the Island. Live entertainment is featured in the evenings. Try a variety of tea blends, accompanied by scones, finger sandwiches, sweet pastries and refreshing sorbet. There is a separate tea party for the kids, with "Alice in Wonderland" cups and plates, and child-friendly
