Moana Surfrider Beach Bar, Waikiki: SUNSET AT THE BEACH BAR

by travelgourmet Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is about the outdoor beach bar at the Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort. Located inside the Banyan Court, fronting the ocean in Waikiki, it has one of the most spectacular views of the sunset in O'ahu. The bartenders are all topnotch, and very friendly.

The PUU-PUU'S that are available to purchase, are great creations that go well with the many different tropical drinks. It really can mellow one out. After 8 PM the Hawaiian music and dancers are on stage. Never want to leave. Aloha.

Favorite Dish: Crab wontons are divine. The crispness of the wonton is the secret, but the crab is the reward. Yum! Be careful, because the ambience can drive you to order more than one serving, as well as one more Mai-Tai.

Keoni's: Cheap breakfast and good Thai

by Tourtech Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Keoni's is also run by Keo. It is his sister's restaurant.

The Thai food is quite good, the North American food is good and cheap, but the breakfast is very good and cheap.

Service is quite fast, and the people are friendly. Not as upscale as Keo's it is still a great kitchen and a great place to eat.

Favorite Dish: We ate breakfast there a few times. Jennifer really liked the french toast. It came with an egg and some bacon too, but it was great with the Coconut syrup that they provided. They had maple syrup too, but you can get that anywhere, so you should try local.

I had the late riser breakfast. Bacon, eggs and pancakes without potatoes. I also ate the coconut syrup, what a nice change of pace.

They also got us in and out quite fast, no dallying!

Buca Di Beppo: Reminds me of being at a friends home

by Onedragon Updated Dec 10, 2008

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a family atmosphere at these restaurants.
The food is dynamite and it is a fun place to take your appetite Also here in Honolulu it is right next to and below the Ward Theaters and along with many other places to check out. Best new restaurant - Honolulu Magazine. Specializing in Immigrant Southern Italian food, served family style . Their portions are legendary .the huge family-size platters of food and the family parties who crowd the place on weekends. Really good, down-home food.

Favorite Dish: I love most of them. Any of the Chicken is great. Not excited about the spaghetti I have eaten there.

    Roy's: Roy's in Hawaii Kai

by Onedragon Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Great food. Maybe a little more expensive. But if you are willing the taste is worthwhile.
Roy comes up with some cool recipes. All for the sake of his wanting to share good food with whom ever comes to his restaurant.
He has a few in different locations, but this is home for him. In order to truly appreciate a meal at Roy's, you need to understand a little of what Executive Chef Roy Yamaguchi has accomplished. Back in the mid-eighties, even the nicer restaurants in Hawaii were serving classic but uninspired cuisine using ingredients flown in from afar. Roy Yamaguchi was one of a small handful of young chefs to shake up the status quo. They created a new class of cuisine, called "Euro-Asian," "Hawaiian Regional Cuisine" or "Hawaiian Fusion," that combined Asian dishes, French techniques and fresh, local ingredients.

Favorite Dish: The shrimp is Ono !!!!!! Actually anything Roy Yamaguchi cooks is pretty tasty!!!!!!!

CHA CHA CHA RESAURANT: CHA CHA CHA

by Onedragon Written Apr 23, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

THIS A SWEET LITTLE PLACE WITH SOME NICE FOOD. OPEN TO THE WAIKIKI AIR ..SO ONE CAN KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE HAPPENING ON THE STREET. Mexican food with Caribbean flair is served at this busy bar and grill. All the familiar south-of-the-border dishes are here, but they're flavored with Cuban and Central American overtones. There is a choice of salsas ranging from very mild to so hot that you'll breathe fire. And if spicy food is your preference, you can request that your entree be served blazing. A few tropical drinks or frosted beers may cool the flames. The decor is a colorful mix of Caribbean and Mexican styles.

Favorite Dish: I LOVE CORNED TORILLAS WITH GREAT TAMALES INSIDE

Keo's: Great Thai food at reasonable prices

by Tourtech Written Mar 16, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In Waikiki, there are many unpredictable restaurant experiences. Unless you are willing to shell out BIG bucks at the expensive hotels or go to Chilli's, it will be hit and miss for dinning experiences locally.

We will list a few places that have great food and reasonable prices on our site. Keo's is at the top of the list.

Favorite Dish: Keo's makes Thai food at reasonable prices with great service. It is always busy. We have been there a few times and we are always impressed.

The Thai Red Curry is great and well packed with White meat only. The Pad Thai is one of the better ones out there and the skewers come with tons of Satay sauce.

Chuck's Steak House: Best place for a sunset dinner

by csordila Updated Nov 6, 2008

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Chuck's Steak House is located in the Outrigger Waikiki on the 2nd floor and is a nice place to go for steak and seafood, when Duke's downstairs is packed. However, the view alone makes me give this restaurant an excellent rating. It features a salad bar that is included with most meals and a lovely view of Waikiki beach with Diamond Head in the background. Menu is simple but their beef is very good, but a bit pricey.

Favorite Dish: The seafood platter with fish, fried shrimp and scallops.

    Open 4:45pm - 10:00pm
Happy hour and Early bird dinner from 4:45pm to 6:00pm
Casual - shirt and footwear required!!

Legend Seafood: Best Dim Sum Ever

by geekgrrl Written Apr 19, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I go for the lunch dim sum. The clientele is mostly Asian, but I have been enough with my Asian friends to know what to do and how to order.

This is a true dim sum restaurant with one of the most extensive array of dishes I have ever seen including chicken feet and jelly fish.

The food is excellent, inexpensive, and an incredible dining experience. Do not be shy. Ask what things are. The trolleys will fly by if you don't stop them and ask what items are.

Favorite Dish: Some of my favorite dishes are mouchi rice in lotus leaf, shrimp in taro, vegetable half-moon, shrimp in wrapper – har gow.

For dessert, my favorite is Sesame paste or if they don't have that, then mango pudding.
