Zippy's and Napoleon Bakeshop: It's a must to try Zipply's

by trinadameg Written Jun 18, 2014

It is a food chain around the island and it has a restaurant and a bake shop.
Zippy's offer a wide variety to choose from breakfast to dinner meal and at every location is the famous Napoleon bakeshop which offer a delectable choices of bread, pastries and sweets.

Each restaurant can be found a almost commonly visited area, so if you do not have any option to eat, then Zippy is the best option. The ambiance is cozy and the servers/cashiers are friendly.

    Favorite Dish: the fried chicken

Local foods from saimin to portugese suasage and eggs to pastries. There are many Zippy's restaurants around the island. Some are take out and some are sit down restaurants. I thought the food was just okay. Try Like Like Drive Inn Restaurant or Rainbow Drive Inn for a more personal experience.

Favorite Dish: Try the Loco Moco- local plate which is a hamburger over eggs and rice topped with gravy.

Zippy's is fun for all ages

Zippy's, established in 1966, is an inexpensive family-style Hawaiian restaurant chain that offers sandwiches, burgers, salads, and soups with an Island twist.

For instance, along with the usual American fare of burgers and shakes, chili, and grilled cheese sandwiches, Zippy's menu also includes local favorites like teriyaki cheeseburgers, Korean fried chicken, mahi mahi, saimin, and loco moco (rice topped with a hamburger, a fried egg, and gravy).

Favorite Dish: I had a bowl of won ton mein: broth, noodles, and boiled won tons with sliced char siu (Chinese barbecued pork) and green onions. It was good and hearty, but much more than I could eat.

    Zippy's: It's the chili...and saimin, chicken, mahimahi...

The food is tasty and affordable, although nowadays prices have increased from years past. You can't go wrong with popular items like the chili, chicken, or saimin, which is a local term along the same line as ramen. Most locations have a takeout counter and a sit-in restaurant--you may choose one over the other--but it'll cost you more to sit in the air-conditioned restaurant. Unless you want to pay for the cool air the counter serves its purpose in satisfying your hunger.

It was recommended to us by a local. It's quite cheap and has a huge variety of choices on the menu. One side of the restaurant is a sit down restaurant, the other side is a walk up counter--with basically the same menu as the sit down side. I found that quite unique. They also had a bakery counter with very good pastries.

Favorite Dish: Everything we tried was very good---even the egg sandwich, plate lunch, pastries, etc.
