Sightseeing Tips (island): The following young ladies...
  • Tip Rating:

  • The following young ladies have graced the front pages of the THIS WEEK booklet which I've mentioned any number of times. This book is prepared for each major Island and contains valuable information, making a good souvenir to take home with you.

You'll be surprised at the wealth of data available to you, not to speak of coupons, travel bargains and don't forget the little travel agency featured within the booklet. It is the smart way to get many of your attraction tickets, often underselling the normal price. The agency is located in a little alleyway at Seaside, you can find that on the Waikiki Map. The young ladies there are very helpful and will work with you to create combination outer island trips at very good prices.

These young ladies are covergirls that have appeared in past issues. They represent the blended races more prevalent in Hawaii than any other State in the Union. Until 1999, Hawaii was the only State in the Union which had a larger percentage of minorities than Whites. Now California has joined them as the 2'nd and largest. You are seeing a pooling of nearly every imaginable ethnic group within this group.

Stacy Kamano appears on Baywatch from time to time.

Honolulu Zoo. War Museum on the beach (donations). Waimia Valley/Falls. Culture Center. Submarine. Pearl Harbor Museum/Memorial
You can't go to Hawaii and NOT check out Pearl Harbor - I found it extrememly interesting and also very scarey how war effects everybody. The kids loved the submarine excursion. Everybody loved going out to Waimea Valley - spent the whole day there. On the way back went to the water park and watched an awesome show of penguins, dolphins, etc.

If you happen to have a motorcycle license then this is the place to take advantage of it. Hawaii is a beautiful place to see while cruisin on a bike. Ive been riding for years, so make sure that you feel comfortable riding in new places. Hawaii doesnt have a helmet law so i rode without one. As fun as it is having the wind in your face, I can honestly say i will never ride without wearing a helmet again. Anyway you can rent a nice bike at most places that rent scooters. Many of them have Harleys, but i need a sportsbike, so i found an R6. I believe i paid $120.00 for a 24 hour period. So get yourself a bike, get out on that highway and open it up.. haha... nah, no need to do that, just take it around the island and i guarantee youll find yourself in some of the most beautiful areas. Ride Safe!!!

Sightseeing Tips (island): Must see the Dole plantation,...
Must see the Dole plantation, downtown Honolulu, and the Polynesian Cultural Center, but Pearl Harbor Memorial was by far the best part of the trip
The pineapple was the best I have ever tasted, downtown had great shopping and the Cultural Center provided a wealth of information on the cultural of Hawaiian people and customs. Pearl Harbor is very informative, moving and inspiration. What a great place to learn about our past heroes.

Sightseeing Tips (island): Drive around and see the sights
Since we didn't have much time here-I think we spent a total of 9 hours here not counting sitting at the airport- we drove around and just took in some sights. We enjoyed walking on the grounds across from the zoo on the Waikiki beach side and looking at the trees. Huge Indian Banyan trees were fascinating to look at it. We drove along the past diamond head and took a few photos of the ocean.

Sightseeing Tips (island): The Pink Palace of the Pacific
The island of Oahu is home to the legendary Waikiki Beach hotel known as The Pink Palace of the Pacific, or officially as The Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
The hotel opened in 1927 -- though its design and decor are a little bit muddled, with Hawaiian themes nowhere in evidence. The art deco architecture has a Spanish-Moorish influence because the silent films of Rudolph Valentino were all the rage at that time. There are also some California Mission touches - bell towers, cupolas.
A historical walking tour is offered to guests of the Royal every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2 p.m. Display cases in the lobby exhibit such artifacts as a dress worn by one of the guests on opening night, china and silver service from that dinner, an original room key and a hotel bill from 1954 -- when a buffet meal could be had for $1.54. A lot of archival photos is displayed on the walls of the Beach Club Cafe, next to the pool.
Also another tour is offered which is a self-guided walk through the gardens by the help of a glossy brochure available at the concierge desk.
For more entertainment in the hotel, be sure to get a ticket - $80.00 per person - to the Royal Luau, held every Monday and Thursday evening on the adjacent Ocean Lawn.
