    Fun Walks

by greenCoral Written Mar 24, 2005

The first couple of days we just walked everywhere along the Waikiki beach and shops. It is really fun because there is a lot of life on the streets, and the beach is fun as well. There are always little cafes and fun shops you can check out. I would definitely recomend walking down to the Waikiki area....it is a cultural experience in many ways. :)

    Diamond Head from Waikiki

True, the beach is very well known and oriented for tourism. Perhaps it is not the nicest beach in Hawaii. Putting things into perspective, I would say that a lot of people would rather be there than where they are right now. Waikiki is a good place to swim, sunbathe, or even learn the basics of surfing. The waves seem fairly tame here compared to some other places on the island. Of course, hotels and all types of tourist related establishments are concentrated here. I would not spend all of my time on the island here, but it is a nice family destination.

    Waikiki Beaches

The beach is a wonderful place to relax and get a great tan. The water was a lot saltier than I'm used to, but it was the perfect temperature, and great after a long hot day. The beaches are normally crowded, but I didn't really mind, because I was able to relax and enjoy, regardless of how many people were there. You don't need to buy a beach mat, because you can usually find them around the beaches at night, after most people have left. Many people just leave them there, because they don't want to take them home, so just pick a stray one up, and leave it at your beach when you're done with it. Someone will want it! Being on the beach every day was a wonderful treat for me, because my life back at home is fairly stressful. It was great to forget all my worries, and just relax and enjoy the sun, sand and water.

You never know what you might find amongst the surfboards!

This beach stretches for two miles, fronted by hotels and Kapiolani Park. You can swim, canoe, surf, and snorkel here. Facilities include lifeguards, picnic areas, telephones, showers, and restrooms.

    Waikiki Beach, Oahu

This is probably one of the most famous beaches in the world along with the Copacabana, Venice, Bondi and Felixstowe (OK, hands up who's heard of Felixstowe !!!).

It's instantly recognisable with the usual picture showing the crescent of the beach and the mountain in the background.

It is always packed with sunseekers taking advantage of Hawaii's fantastic climate and on the Sunday I was there, there were boat races through the surf.

    Waikiki Beach

The image of Hawaii in many people's minds. It is a fascinating place to be. There is so much going on here that it can be overwhelming at times. But I'd take that to everyday life anytime! Not a pristine seaside paradise, but as one of the world’s greatest resort playgrounds, it’s irresistibly exciting.
The summer months bring bigger surf to Waikiki. The water is usually calm and the surf ranges from 1-3 ft. There are occasional 4-6 ft swells. The winter months bring very calm conditions, and the surf is usually smaller; usually not rising above 2ft.

A walk along this beach is a must! The views from the beach, piers, water, are all outstanding. You may not even find a reason to leave the beach since there are ocean front motels all along it with their wonderful restaurants. You'll even find booths on the beach for buying everything from sunscreen to water toy rentals (such as surfboards, body boards, water bikes, lounge chairs, etc,). For the serious volleyball players, there are beach side sand courts located by Fort DeRussey Park and up by the Aquarium. Also a short walk from the DeRussey park beach is the beautiful Marina by the Sheraton. When we walked along here in Jan., we saw hundreds of jellyfish---but didn't encounter any from the beach area. Down by the pier near the south end of the beach, there's a really nice protected shallow swimming area great for families with small children. Being on the west side of the island, it's also a great place to catch a beautiful hawaiian sunset.

Relax and enjoy the beach at night...

Along Waikiki Beach at night during the month of December every night they show different films on the beach and some restaurants showcase their foods, so you can eat and enjoy movies right on the beach.

While I was there I enjoyed watching Top Gun and Toy Story 2. Locals and tourists alike enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings. What's better sitting in a stuffy theatre or watching a movie sitting on the sand and hearing light waves behind while watching a movie just like they did in the days of drive-in movies.

It was defenitely a pleasure and must do when staying in Honolulu. The food choices were wonderful. Every other evening there would be a band playing till sunset hour.

    Waterfall...

There are many interesting things to see on the foreshore. This lovely waterfall really added to the already beautiful parks along the beach. There were also many statues, and I even found the web cam that I used to watch in Australia, before this holiday ever happened.

    Waikiki Beach

This is one of those places that once you have seen it, and walked on these sands, and taken in all the surrounding beauty, you are convinced that it doesn't get much better than this. And believe me, it doesn't.
I spent a lot of time on this beach, soaking up the rays, chatting with the locals, and doing a lot of damage to my budget... LOL..
    The incredible sunsets were unforgettable..

Of course if you come here, you must visit Waikiki Beach. We didn't have time to swim while we were here. But it is a great beach for all ages.

    Fishermans Wharf

This is Fishermans Wharf restaraunt, we did not eat here, but parked the car in the parking lot.

It is a convenient location for catching the ships out to sea. We went whale watching from this port.

Just walking around this street on Friday night is a great thing to do. Lots of people walking around, lots of shops, and different people and artists on the street.
