Three Friends offers SUP lessons and/or tours. Great way to learn, pretty much one to one, no big groups. Very patient instructor. Had a great time. Wish i would have taken the lesson earlier in my visit so i could book an easy SUP run. Give this a try, you won't be disappointed.

So first things first. Be safe. My friend was learning to surf and didn't put the ankle strap on. Needless to say his board shot out from under him and flew through the air and landed on another person arm... Breaking it. No your limits and attempt to stay a safe distance from others.

You can rent these giant tricycles, called Aqua Cycles, at Waikiki and (theoretically) ride them through the water.
I don't know how you'd do that without running over someone, but they look like fun.

To the ancient Hawaiians, surfing ("he'e nalu," or wave sliding) was a spiritual undertaking.
Today, novices can rent a board and take surfing lessons. You should be a strong swimmer, because you'll be swimming after your board a lot in the beginning.
Experienced surfers will want to check out the waves off Kuhio Beach. Once the locals see that you know what you're doing and are not going to take off in front of them, they'll leave you in peace.

This was a nice experience and it was great to see underwater Waikiki. The tour included hotel pick up and drop off, and you board at the Hilton Hawaiian village. We saw a few giant turtles underwater which was pretty good..

This morning we got up early and drove to Wai?anae for a wild dolphin tour with Wild Side Specialty Tours. We had to report in at 6:45 for a 7:00 AM tour which lasted until 11:00. We had to sign all sorts of disclaimers that we understood these are wild animals and we really might not see anything. That was ok because the boat ride was fun and these mountains are gorgeous!
Just a little ways out we spotted whales! A mother and her calf. In all we saw whales 4 different times ? I tried and tried and didn?t get a single picture! Well, actually I have lots of pictures of just after they made a splash. Fast action is really hard to catch with a digital camera. We also saw a school of marlin jumping. Didn?t get a picture of that either!
They took us to a ?turtle cleaning station? where the turtles go and the fish clean them off. I loved this! I would have been completely happy with the tour if this was all we saw.
But then we saw them ? spinner dolphins ? and lots of them. I was excited like a little kid at Christmas.
Eight of us got in the water with them, and it was the most amazing thing ever to swim with dolphins! (The pictures really don?t do this justice. These were taken on a disposable water camera ? they were closer to us than the pictures look!)
I could hear the dolphins ?chirping? with one another. They let us swim with them for about 15 minutes. I counted 28 dolphins in all. After a while, they just took off. That was when I realized they had been letting us stay with them ? they swim REALLY fast when they want to. This was a memory of a lifetime. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone! We actually stayed out until 11:30 since we were seeing so much. They even served us breakfast when we first got on the boat (bagels w/ cream cheese, fresh pineapple, granola bars and soft drinks).

I am sooo afraid of heights! But I was determined to parasail. And it was such a great experience! It was a windy day when we went, so they sent two people at a time. Once you get to the top it is so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. You get a view of Waikiki that you can't get from the ground.
Tip: if you get seasick, you might want to take something for it before you get on the boat.

This was the funnest experience we had. The weather was not great and there were quite a few waves on Kailua Beach, but we were determined to kayak thankfully. Driving up to Kailua Beach is really fun too. Part of the highway goes along the shore and it is breathtaking a lot of the time. We rented our kayak from Hawaiian Watersports ($45/half day for a double kayak)
It was sooooo much fun. We kayaked to an island off shore which was a bird sanctuary, but we saw no birds and then we kayaked around catching waves and it was SO MUCH FUN. Hawaiian Watersports will deliver the kayak right on the beach where you can hop in it and ride the waves.

Absolutely incredible. We took Dream Cruises, because it appeared to be smaller than some of the other whale watching boats, but it was also cheaper than some of the really small boats ($30).
Before we could make the turn around Diamond Head where apparently most of the whales are sighted, a baby whale appeared. Of course we were all spellbound. We watched it for quite awhile as it seemed to love the attention. It came very close to our boat, which had stopped moving and even flipped on his back and waved his flippers a couple of times like he was sunning himself.
After about ten minutes of this, all of us on the boat began to wonder where mom was and then suddenly she appeared. She was huge. And then she and the baby came alongside our boat several times. It took my breath away the first time I saw her length right next to the boat. The only other time I felt like this around an animal was when I spotted some of the lions in Africa. She just seemed so huge and to see her swimming alongside her baby was incredible.
The only downside of this was that we couldn't move because the baby and mom wouldn't leave and the captain was afraid to move in case he hurt them, so we never got to go around Diamond Head to see anymore whales or find any dolphins. But overall, I wouldn't have traded our experience for either of those two things.
I also saw my first flying fish ever while we were going out, which were neat to see.
Sorry, my pix weren't that great. I just took a disposable and kept missing the good stuff from the whales.
