More pics of Honolulu
This isn't a page to say what is wrong but just put a few more pics in !!!!
Unique Suggestions: Tourtraps are only when we don't want to see it coming. And then we fall into something that might not be what we thought at first.
Fun Alternatives: A day at the beach or shopping mall really doesn't have to be a tourist trap.Related to:

IT CAN BE A GREAT DEAL TO TRAVEL FROM STORE TO ANOTHER BY WAY OF THE FREE TROLLIES OR BUSES....BUT BASICALLY IT IS TO GET PEOPLE TO SHOP MORE....SO THE FREE HAS TURNED OUT TO COST YOU A LOT MORE THAN WHAT YOU MAY HAVE IMAGINED......
Unique Suggestions: THINK OF TAKING A CAR OR THE BUS..SO YOU CAN LEAVE WHEN YOU WANT..
Fun Alternatives: WALKING TO LOCATIONS NEAR BY IS A GOOD ALTERNEATIVE..
HOTELS QUIETLY ADD NEW FEES
Hawaiian hotels are quietly adding new "resort fees" to the hotel bill. That lei greeting, coffee or tea in the room, parking and other amenities like internet acess and gym fees.
These fees are not optional but mandatory. For example, the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa on Maui adds a daily $18 fee per room. That is in addition to the room rate which starts at $485 a night.
Fun Alternatives: Ask about all fees when booking. If you book on the internet, it is best to call to confirm that the rate you will pay won't have other charges added to it.Related to:

Don Ho is OLD
We visited the Don Ho show on the first day in Honolulu. I was glad we got it over.
The food at the dinner portion of the show was bad. He sang very little and sat on a stool a lot. Kids were called up on stage and made to hug. If you want to embarrass your grandkids, this is where you should take them!!
I was glad when it was over. You are better off buying a Don Ho video from one of the 200 ABC stores.
Fun Alternatives: The luau at the Royal Hawaiin hotel was wonderful.
It was not too long. WE were able to feel the ocean breezes in our hair.
Its one of the only luaus that you can walk to. No one wants to spend the day on a bus!!
It only on Mondays, so plan ahead!!!Related to:

Waimea Falls! Definitely...
Waimea Falls! Definitely overpriced and overtouristy. A place you shouldn't mind missing, especially if you've already seen Manoa Falls near Waikiki (or better yet, go to NZ and see REAL waterfalls :)
As you walk around town there...
As you walk around town there are lots of people handing out fliers trying to get your attention with what seems like a great deal on tours and rental cars. Ignore them and stick to the information you obtain via the hotels or Pleasant Hawaiian Holiday. There are always time share meetings or other activities attached to these 'great deals' and they are a waste of time.
If you like snorkeling,
If you like snorkeling, don't miss Hanauma Bay, 12 mi/20 km west of Diamond Head.
The sheltered emerald cove offers the opportunity to see many colorful-and surprisingly tame-tropical fish (equipment rentals available). Hanauma Bay is quite popular, and at midafternoon you may find yourself peering into the masks of other snorkelers rather than at fish, so go early.
Be sure to confirm the days and hours that Hanauma is open and what parking restrictions are in place before you make the drive: New regulations have been instituted that limit access to the park.
With so many wonderful beaches and snorkling spots in Hawaii, I don't see the point in paying for something you can do elsewhere for free.
Unique Suggestions: Check before you leave on the parks hours that day. You can call +1 (808) 396-4229 for other information about the park twenty-four hours per day, including information on emergency closures. You can even leave a message for a call back, if you want.
This most beautiful of places is ideal - if you are a new SCUBA diver or snorkeler; and - just for swimming.Related to:

Although I enjoyed going out...
Although I enjoyed going out to the Waterpark it was expensive I thought. You're kind of trapped way out there too. Beer was like $5. (u.s.d.) and fries were like $4. just stupid. But, hey it's hot, the kids are thirsty and hungry......so just eat first and drink water!! You'll enjoy the show.
Maui Divers - the first time...
Maui Divers - the first time we went to Hawaii we got sucked into these free little trips. Being the 'pale young virgins' we just got on the bus like we were told to and went on the tour (free), boring tour that is and then they brought us to the Dive Shop where there were at least 50 women willing ready and able to sell us anything and everything in the store. We were treated poorly because we had no intention of buying anything as swe didn't even know what the heck we were in for! I did buy a pair of pearl ear rings but only because I got suckered into buying the pearls (fresh in the shell) and had to do something with the damned things!
There is someone always trying...
There is someone always trying to sell you something on the street. Dinner Cruise, scuba diving all sorts of stuff. If you want to do this stuff have your Travel Agent or a friend recomend something for you. Otherwise you wont quite get what you bargained for!! Also things are expensive there as far as dining so going to the to get fresh fruits and vegtables for at least one or two meals a day.. It is wonderful produce wise.
But a place you should visit if you haven't!
The Dole Plantation is a gigantic tourist trap! I did not buy anything except a token for the Garden Tour which I enjoyed. Our guide was a little, old, soft spoken, Hawaiian man with a odd sense of humor. The tourist trap part is their retail gift shop. You can literally spend a fortune in there! I started to get caught up in it all, holding onto hot sauces, boxes of macadamia nut something or other and I ended up putting it all back on the shelves because I reasoned that I didn't want to carry everything while taking the tour. Then I decided it was really expensive and I didn't need any of it.
Unique Suggestions: Take the tours. There are a couple maybe three. They are worth it! Located at 64-1550 Kamehameha Hwy, Open from 9am - 5:30pm daily. For more info visit www.dole-plantation.com
Fun Alternatives: I don't know about Oahu but in Kauai you can find a number of farmer's markets. But I'm sure any small market will do. Buy yourself some fresh pineapple and eat it! It's sweetest, freshest pineapple you will ever have!Related to:
