    Honolulu What to Pack

Bring flip-flops with you or plan to buy some when you arrive. See my Local Customs tip. Pack clothing suitable for tropical weather. The young women in this photo, with their black stockings and high heeled shoes, were dressed as if they were in New York City, and they just looked silly. Plus, they must have been extremely uncomfortable. It was...

    Oahu What to Pack

Depending on the length of the trip a rollaboard or a regular suitcase is good. Hawaii is pretty casual with dress so no need for the formal clothes. We packed a bunch of tee shirts, shorts, linen pants and some Tommy Bahama shirts for me. I brought several swimtrunks and flips for the beach. Contacts, contact solution, bandaids, aspirin, hair gel,...

    Oahu What to Pack

Most things from the smallest items all the way to clothing and beach gear can be purchased at one of the many ABC stores. So why not leave some of the bulky stuff behind and just pick up some in Oahu. Our last trip we decided to pack light since we tend to do "too much shopping" on our vacations and wind up purchasing more luggage to haul it...

    Oahu What to Pack

Bugs haven't usually been an issue for us when visiting Hawaii until our most recent trip. My wife got some gigantic mosquito bits on her ankle and back. Fortunately we always carry Insect repellant as well as cortisone cream to help deal with the itch of a bite....my wife travels with a portable pharmacy it seems.

    Oahu What to Pack

My wife and I enjoy swimming whether it is at the pool or beach. Swiming for us is more enjoyable when we have the right gear such as water shoes and UV Swim shirts. Nothing ruins a day at the beach like sun burn or cut up feet.

    Oahu What to Pack

You'll need good pair of hiking shoes. Sneackers will do, but some more professional type of shoes will prevent you from getting wet feet. Although if you're going to cross streams nothing will save you. If you go hiking, make sure you have plenty of water with you. In the everlasting Hawaiian heat a bottle of 1,5 liters should be enough for a 3-4...

  • Water Camera

We never go anywhere without our water cameras and float belts. Both my wife and I have water camera to take those great water pics when at the beach or snorkelling.

  • Sun Block

Sun Block is always a must for us when we travel. Both my wife and I are fair skinned and don't want to risk skin cancer or have a painful burn ruin our vacation. We always bring our own as we have preferences of brand and want a high SPF which is often hard to find. We prefer sun blocks that are waterproof and have zinc oxide to ensure we can be...

  • Guide Books

It's always a good idea to do some research on an area before you travel and build a loose itinerary. I have found that the DK books on Oahu and Waikiki/Honolulu are very good as well as the book Oahu Revealed. Most books can be found in stores such as Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc. On the islands the ABC shops carry a variety of Hawaii guide...

  • Believe it or not

While the warm ocean waters can be very inviting please be warned of Jellyfish stings. One of the best remedies is to rub in meat tenderizer. Along with the suntan lotion bring this in your beach-bag as well. A comfortable pair of walking shoes, flip flops and a beach towel. Also an umbrella; rain can appear even during the summer months.

  • Fun in the Sun

I am an avid sun lover however, being fair skinned and a red head this equates to very little sun tolerance. I have found several products which allows me to spend almost an unlimited time in the sun without sunscreen and without burning. The first one is called a "Solarveil" this is a woven shirt that has the protection of 50 spf. The shirt is...

We had the least luggage in our group and still over packed...and it was our wedding/honeymoon! Had we not had to bring dress, suit, gifts, we would have only needed one medium or 2 small roller suitcases. Its really casual and laid back. We brought what we thought would be good shoes, and we both ending up ditching our fancy sandles for cheap foamy...

  • Just a few basics to keep in mind.

Sweatshirts or jackets. Any type of cooler weather clothing will do. Sometimes the water is very cold around the islands, especially during the winter. So warmer clothes might be of benefit to you. Also during the winter there are times when it can get "cold" for the islands. So you might need it just for walking around. Bring your best...

As Oahu is lines with beaches, pack your swimsuit and sunscreen. Yes, even if you are going on business! • Try not to over pack

The islands of Hawaii are in the subtropics...so that means it will be warm and humid. Bring lots of shorts, t-shirts, swimsuits and sunglasses. Also, bring a light windbreaker for windy and rainy days. Sun tan lotion is a must, especially if you have light skin. If you forget anything, there are many ABC Stores located around the island. A...
