Included on our Island Tour was a visit to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. For us it was a whistle-stop visit, just enough time to sample the pineapple ice cream, browse around the shop for anything and everything with a pineapple theme -soooooooooo expensive%*. If you visit independently you could take a little tram like ride around the fields, and be given all the information you wanted to know about pineapple growing. While visiting the plantation you could also get lost in the World's largest agricultural maze. It is laid out in a former pineapple field. The maze was officially recognised in the 2001 Guiness Book of World Records as the world's largest, it contains 1.7 mile path covering more than two acres of red dirt and is planted with 11,400 colourful Hawaii'an plants, including hibiscus, helioconia, joyweed, panax and pineapple. There are six secret stations to find, and prizes are offered to those who complete their search to the finish in the fastest time. There is a charge for the maze, but the "Pineapple Experience" tour of the plantation is free of charge. Along the roadside you could see miles and miles of pineapples growing, all belonging to Dole. Leave a Comment Address: on Kamehameha Highway, past Wahiawa.

That's not what I really mean. You can actually have your picture taken in a board that looks like a pineapple. They have these at the Dole Plantation for you to take pictures so you will have some remembrance at the plantation. The Dole Plantation also has the largest maze in the world. I actually didn't go to the maze because I am not fond of solving the puzzle - of how I am going to get out from that maze! I rather go to the fish pond of which I did and I fed a lot of koi fish. The plantation's pond was surrounded with papayas with their fruits riped. I was also more interested in picking the papayas...They looked so delicious! . Take the kids on a train tour of the plantation to learn all about pineapples or find your way through a 100,000 sq. ft. maze of greenery. Either way you just might enjoy visiting Dole Pineapple Plantation. The Maze is 8 feet high and was once the largest in the world. While it may take up to an hour to find the exit, others do it in minutes! Adults $6; kids 4-12 $4.00. The Pineapple Express educates visitors on a 20 minute train ride about the history of Hawaii and agriculture of this area. It runs daily from 9am-5pm on the half hour. Adults $7.75; kids 4-12 $5.75, under 4 is free. A Garden Tour introduces guests to the flora of Hawaii. Adults $4.00; kids 4-12 $3.24. Pineapples are the theme here--surprise, surprise! A well stocked gift/snack shop is also on the premises. Address: Oahu, Hi.Phone: 808-621-8408Directions: On Hwy. 99, north of WahiawaWebsite: www.dole.com

My children love coming here. The Pineapple Garden Maze was a good addition to the place. According to the 2001 Guinnes Book of World Records, this maze is the largest. The Plantation garden is beautful. It has a large pond surrounded by different variety of colorful plants! The garden has about 11,400 different tropical plants! Feeding the Koi (Japanese fish) is totally the best part of our trip to the Dole Plantation. The Koi would jump almost in expectation of feeding time! There are hundreds of them that the feeds we threw at them disappears so fast! Since it rained when we went there, we had to go inside the building for cover! There were shops and some fun stuff to do. We tried our luck opening oysters in the hopes of finding almost perfect pearls! The kids found three! The trip is probably about 40 minutes without traffic. Public transportation is also available. The plantations opens daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.Website: www.dole_plantation.com

When you think of Hawaii, you have to think of the sweet, tropical and exotic pineapple. Personally I think about cutting off the top, hollowing one out, and drinking a delicious libation from it...but hey, to each his own. The next best thing for "pineapple fun" is taking whirl around the Dole Pineapple Plantation in the center of Oahu. It takes about a half an hour of driving from the airport to arrive but I hear that traffic can get nasty, so plan for more. Parking, exploring the gift shop and gardens do not cost any fees so take advantage of the cost-friendly attraction. The Pineapple Variety Garden behind the gift shop features several pineapple plants from all over the world and there is a mini-train that chaueffers you around as long as you don't mind going 4 mph. A farmer’s market set up outside the gift shop, which sold locally grown fruits and vegetables and you can get your fill of pineapple cuisine. Chocolate covered pineapple wedges, pineapple smoothies, salad dressings, whole fruit, gifts shaped as pineapple people, pineapple strudel, pineapple bread, etc. After your shopping spree for everything pineapple-licious you can get yourself lost in the Dole maze. It's a day of fun....so allocate enough time to soak in the spiny yet delicious lil' fruits. Address: 64-1550 Kamehameha Hwy. With 1.7 miles of paths lined by colorful Hawaiian plants and over 100,000 square feet of space, this is a whole new way to "get lost". The Guinness Book of Records calls the DOLE PLANTATION MAZE the world's largest maze. Very much a tourist trap, I would not buy anything there except the dole whip. However it is worth the visit to learn the history of the pineapple and have that yummy dole whip. Dole whip is available in other flavor now such as mango and strawberry. Take a ride on the Pineapple express and run throught the worlds largest maze. Leave a Comment

I'm a pineapple lover. It was one of the top things to do on my itinerary. Even though they had forecast to rain and that I would be waiting hours upon hours just to go visit the Dole Plantation, it was a must do item on my list. I actually ended renting a car and it didn't take me long to get there from Pearl Harbor. (Always remember to plan well in advance. I planned out each day and I printed out all the directions and alternate directions I can take from places to places. There are only a couple major freeways so it's hard to get lost. It was just us two girls but we managed.) They offer tours and a train ride through the fields for approximately $14-25. I didn't take any of the tours. However, I did go on the Pineapple Express. It took me through the fields. At the time it was barren so I didn't see much but you learn a lot about the history of pineapple. There's also a garden for everyone to see where they grow all kinds of species of pineapples from around the world. For you pineapple fanatics, I'm sure you will enjoy this. There's also a maze for children as well. We were on a budget and a time constraint so we opted not to do it. My most favorite attraction there has to be the Pineapple Delight. It was yummy! You have pineapple ice cream on top of fresh sweet pineapple chunks and coconut sprinkled on top. It was great! From their gift shops you can purchased all kinds of pineapple memorabilias, pineapple upside down cake, and pineapples to take home with you. My suggestion about buying pineapples is that you shouldn't. It didn't taste as good as eating it there. While you're in Hawai'i take advantage of every opportunity to eat the pineapple. It tastes so much better there. Leave a Comment
