Hmmm...never too young to flirt. by ray_d A hundred or so people gathered for the rehersial Dinner in a not too flashy Chinese Restaurant in a less than attractive suburb in Honolulu. The Chef refused the original decisions of the client and insisted that there had to be ballance between flavour and taste. The scrawny and not too "Chef like" chap dictated the salty and other dishes he "suggested" without restraint. Result: total bedlem from the waiters and perfect temperature and wonderful tastes. I was mesmerised, the other Hawaiian and Chinese expected no less and were well satisfied. The food: magnificent. I watched these two as the girl sized up the pint-sized interest.

The Old Spaghetti Factory by TropicGirl77 The pasta menu is great ... though the tomato sauce is nothing to rave about. There is usually at least a 10 minute wait, but the service is usually very friendly. The mood is usually busy, yet personal. There are no two lights the same in the restaurant, and for something a little different, ask to be seated in the streetcar (booth)
My absolute favorite dish there is their Breast of Chicken Fettuccine (since I'm not really into the tomato sauce deals) and their balsamic dressing is tops in my books. Zippy's Hawaii by TropicGirl77 Zippy's, 24 hours, offers a wide selection for all. From Burgers and local sandwiches, to plate lunches and sea food platters, and even party platters. A few local specials would be their Saimin (ramen), sushi (rolled rice specials), teriyaki and seafood items. They are most known for their Chili fundraisers (that help out many non-profit organizations) Always, where there is a Zippy's restaurant, you will find a Napolean's Bakery.
Their macaroni salad is the best I've ever had outside of my mom's homemade salad. And their teriyaki beef plate is delicious(their beef is always so tender). Leave a Comment

Kimo's by Roadquill On Front Street overlooking the harbor. Wonderful place to take in a Maui sunset. Service was excellent and food very tasty. It seemed they hired half of Maui as there were plenty of servers. Great mai tai's. It seemed to get busy by 7 PM

This buffet-type restaurant had glorious outdoor dining, a large selection of food and reasonable prices. We had breakfast here at least twice and enjoyed the al fresco dining. A garden pool winding its way past our table let us enjoy the fish and ducks who called it home. Many choices of food and a special section catered to the Japanese taste. Itz da bomb Brudda!! by sargentjeff Best stateside pizza I've had. Best in the world is at Trianon, Naples, Italy (see my Naples page) It may be a little hole in the wall, but 'Kahuna's' is well worth a meal, and definitely the first restaurant I'd go to if I visit Hawaii again. That's saying a lot. don't miss it!!
IN REALITY IT'S ALSO 'OFF THE BEATEN PATH' LOCALS FLOCK TO THIS PLACE. THEIR PIZZA IS OUTSTANDING, AND DON'T PASS UP THE GARLIC CHEESE BALLS Included is an excerpt from a newspaper article on the place. By Matthew Gray Advertiser Restaurant Critic This is the story of a young lady, Kelly Suchotzki, who learned the secret of Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Eight years ago, she decided to go into business, launching Big Kahuna's Pizza -N- Stuffs. In Hawaiian, kahuna means shaman in its most formal usage. Nowadays, though, kahuna often signifies a level of expertise associated with that of a wizard, guru or, in this case, an expert or master (of pizza, that is). True Chicagoans rave about two things: the Cubs, and, to a lesser extent, the Malnati family's pizzeria. You can get a version of this luscious fried-crust favorite here, with local flair, flavorings and liberal doses of aloha. Before you get started, get an order of the garlic cheese balls. The most popular pizza here is 'da Big Kahuna's sumo special' that combines toppings such as pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, Kahlua pork, Portuguese sausage, bacon, onions, mushrooms, chopped tomato and black olives. It's amusing that Suchotzki is a vegetarian, considering how well she treats her meats. The kalua pork and the beef brisket are done on the premises using 'the exact same preparation. It's tender and smoky, and if you ask nice, she'll even give you her recipe. The 'stuffs' part of the menu refers to the sandwiches ($5.95) that you definitely should try. Keep in mind that the bread is homemade and that the owner is a self-proclaimed bread lover. The large, fresh rolls really make a difference. One choice comes stuffed with corned beef, roast beef or turkey, with cheddar and jack cheese, shredded cabbage, tomato and onion, sprinkled with olive oil and vinegar. The surfer sub/grinder gives you the choice between ham and pastrami done in much the same fashion.
