Tiki Bar & Grill: Great food on the beach

Beautiful terrace, poolside restaurant on the beach. Live entertainment, torches, Waikiki sunsets, good food at reasonable prices. Everything we ordered was wonderful & had a Hawaiian flair. Tried a lavaflow = pina colada with strawberries.

Smorgy's Restaurant: Disappointing Breakfast at Smorgy's Restaurant

by joiwatani

The restaurant is pretty close to Waikiki Beach and a few blocks away from our hotel. The restaurant is located in a very nice location - corner street. The acacia tree is shading the restaurant and there were some tables outside the main building adjacent to a pond. The tree makes the restaurant cool. My first impression was very nice until we started eating. The birds came and started helping themselves with our food! It was disgusting! No matter how I shooed them away, they still kept coming back!!!The food was actually bad. Everything they served tasted awful. I pretty much forced myself to swallow the food! Even the scrambled eggs were badly cooked! My husband complained to the manager. I didn't even realize that while I was waiting for him on our table, he was looking for a clean plate! He had to go through six plates before he got a clean one! He said, he even found a spaghetti...

An array of restaurants and fastfoods!: Eat and drink at the Ala Moana's Makai Food Court!

by joiwatani

There are so many fine dining and fast food restaurants inside the Ala Moana Center. There is Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Italian, Indian, American, Filipino restaurants at the food court. There are also take out centers for drinks, ice cream, bubble tea, Filipino Halo-halo. Available dessert and drinks stores are the Ifiore Italian Yogurt, the Cookie Corner, the Haagen-Dazs, The GodivaDairy Queen, Dippin' Dots, Dave's Ice Cream and the Pineapple and Coconut Hut.I can't name all of the choices of restaurants but we tried Lahaina Chicken, The Pineapple Room at the Macy's (fine dining), and a Korean restaurant (sorry, I forgot it's name!). The food served are excellent. The best part of going to this food court is that I can have my family choose which one they like! There is the Romano's Macaroni Grill at Ho'okipa Terrace, Quizno's at the Mall Level, Curry House/Coco Ichibanya at...

Lahaina Chicken: Try the new fastfood in Hawaii!

by joiwatani

It's one of the fastest growing fastfood chain in Hawaii. I am not sure when the food chain started but I know for sure that in 2002, they don't have this restaurant yet. But, now most shopping malls' food courts have it. There is one in the Ala Moana shopping mall and there is also at the airport. The food is really not that expensive but they have great food and big servings ala-island style. I ordered the beef steak and it was pretty good! It came with with a variety of steamed vegetables and macaroni salad. I could have two other choices since it's part of the deal! The gravy was delicious, too!

The Pineapple Room at the Macy's, Ala Moana: Try the Meat Loaf, it will surprise you!

by joiwatani

This is absolutely a nice restaurant - not pricy even! The place is considered fine dining although the cost is not that expensive! The servers and great and the food are excellent. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The tables are neatly covered with white linen and the chairs are very comfortable to sit on. What is special about this restaurant is that it is located in Ala Moana where you can shop - where you can find bargains or you can choose to shop at the signature shops! It is a place to be! I like the Caesar's salad and the Meat Loaf. The Caesar's Salad is a meal in itself. It has a Hawaiian taste on it! It is mixed with broiled chicken and has a tinge of spice on it. The loco moco comes with macaroni salad (Hawaiian-style of course - mixed with peas), a corn on the cub and mashed potatoes. The meat loaf is really good! It fills you up!

Sushi Sasabune: BEST SUSHI EVER!

by susancuozzo

This place may seem like a hole in the wall but it is really a gem. The chef sends you pieces in many, many courses until you say you can't eat anymore. You end up trying things you never would have otherwise which are incredible! The servers are also great - they explain everything about each course of sushi that they serve. It's always different - be open to not ordering

These are our favorites for their dining area's view of the sunset. The food is good, too. We encountered the best dinner-time view of the sunset on Maui at Kimo's in Lahaina. Our table by the railing on their open-deck dining area provided an unobstructed view of the harbor with a great view of the sun settling into the ocean between Lana‘i and Moloka‘i. Unfortunately, we didn't take a picture. On Moloka‘i, we really enjoyed the view (picture at left) from Hotel Moloka‘i's Oceanfront Restaurant. The sunset views, cool ocean breezes, and the sound of gentle waves lapping the shoreline made the dining experience extremely memorable.Just as an FYI: If you love sushi, you'll love the Islands. From the fancy Japanese restaurants in Waikiki to the deli counter in just about every grocery store on every island, sushi is everywhere. Even at 7-11. Lulu's in Kona serves a great seared tuna...

If You're Doing the Road to Hâna

by BlueCollar

On the Island of Maui in the little town of Hâna.How many times have you read that there are few affordable restaurant choices in Hāna? Well, it's true. This is why you should pack your lunch if you're doing "The Road to Hāna". Pick up some drinks, sandwiches, and a cooler with ice in Kahului before heading out. But, if you forgot to do this, you still have a few options. And this one is best, IMHO.Just after Hāna on the main highway you will pass through a stretch of Cook pines lining the roadway. Keep an eye out for the signs by the road (see pictures). This guy is not always open. But if he is, you must try his offerings. He opens at 10am and cooks until everything is gone. He says that usually happens around 2 or 3pm.Since we were staying in Hāna for three nights and we really liked his food, we picked up an extra plate a couple of times to microwave for dinner....

Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream: A Taste of Paradise

by BlueCollar

On the Island of Moloka‘i.They have a huge selection of locally made ice cream. But I only ordered the same two flavors both times we stopped here because these two combined tasted soooo good.I had one scoop of haupia (coconut pudding) ice cream with one scoop of lychee sherbet. This mix just screams PARADISE at you! The haupia was very smooth and creamy without coconut shavings, which I found especially pleasing. It was just smooth, creamy, coconut ice cream. What a treat! The sherbet was sweet and slightly tangy with very small chunks of lychee included. This was very intriguing because lychee are a very sweet fruit to begin with. Typically, sour, tart, or very tangy fruits are used to make sherbets. Somehow they managed to capture the true essence of this sweet fruit. However they did it, I commend their effort. If my body could have afforded any greater calorie consumption without any...

Waimea Brewing Company: Drink Some Ale

by BlueCollar

On the Island of Kaua‘i.The food here is your typical American-type offering the standard fare with a few localized dishes. None of the food was really outstandingly great nor was anything terribly horrible. It's just a good, regular restaurant.Favorite Dish: Where they do excel is in the ales they brew right behind the bar. If you sit at the bar, you will have a great view through the window to the brewroom with its huge vats and assocciated piping. They have several different brews. I only tasted three: Wai‘ale‘ale Ale, Na Pali Pale Ale, and Lilikoi Light Ale. All three tasted good but I was really stuck on their Lilikoi Light Ale, which they do not even list on their website. Its texture reminded me of Corona, which is a very light bodied lager. However, the difference is that the Lilikoi Light Ale is just that - an ALE. Ales are usually heavy in body and bolder in taste because they...
