Bubba Gump: Shrimps Galore

by terps94

If you have seen the movie " Forrest Gump" with Tom Hanks you know that in the movie his best friend is a shrimp farmer so for the sake of marketing they established this restaurant..In here you can have shrimp serve in every possible way I know it's a bit commercialized but the food is great and the atmosphere is awesome too. They also serve other dishes besides seafood so you have a quite of selection.Just watch out for the souvenir shop beside the restaurant total tourist trap. Order the garlic bread and also stuff shrimp

WAIKIKI RESTAURANTS

by rdw66

THERE'S MORE PLACES TO EAT IN WAIKIKI THAN YOU CAN COUNT. FROM McDONALDS TO JOHN DOMINICS AND THE WILLOWS. BUT YOU CAN GET STEAK AND LOBSTER AT SOME VERY NICE PLACES FOR $10. JUST PICK UP A RESTAURANT GUIDE WHEN YOUR THERE. THERE IN STREET STANDS UP AND DOWN KALAKAU & KUHIO AVE, FOR FREE. BUT A GOOD PLACE TO START LUNCH & DINNER IS AT THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN SHOPPING CENTER. THERE ARE MULTIPLE RESTAURANTS SERVING MULTIPLE KINDS OF FOOD AT REALLY LOW PRICES. AND THERE VERY NICE INSIDE..THE SHOPPING CENTER IS ON KALAKAUA AVE. ACROSS FROM THE BEACHCOMBER HOTEL.

Bubbies' Ice Cream: Bubbies' Ice Cream: Equal to the world's best

by SethNess

Bring a sweater or jacket, because the place is extraordinarily COLD inside, not merely airconditioned-cool. Try not to come by car, as parking is VERY limited. You may have to hunt a little, to find this place. It's tucked out of sight, on a side street (Coyne Street) across from the Varsity movie theater, behind Rainbow Bookstore.I've taken hundreds of people (youth hostellers) here, and everyone says this ice-cream is at least equal to the best they've ever had. It has a cult following amongst local Hawaiians. The store is strictly ice-cream, nothing else. There's a nearby pizza parlor, burger king, and Japanese gyouza place, though.20 minute walk from Waikiki. My favorite part of the restaurant is SAMPLING. As you stand on line to order, you can ask for a small sample spoonful of any (or several, heheheheeee !) ice-cream.The names of some of the flavors are hysterical, and borderline...

Kona Brewing Company: Local brews with some great food

by terps94

The only brewery and pub in the big island they have some awesome lagers and ales I personally prefer the hefeweizen and the blond ale. They also serve some awesome sandwiches, pupus, great salads and some hand tossed pizzas. They are open for lunch and dinner daily and they also offer a brewery tour at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm M-F. The Greek salad and any of the pizza

The Cheesecake factory: Cheesecake anyone?

by terps94

If you are craving some good cheesecake this is the place to be in here you can try more than 20 different cheesecake I recommend you try the strawbeery shortcake one. Besides the cheesecakes they also serves some delicious dishes ranging from salads to pasta and burgers. If you head to this place make sure you come early because a lot of people come to this restaurant and if you wait later in the day you will end up waiting as long as 70 minutes. I recommend coming here for lunch it is a lot less crowded. My favorite dish in here is Thai Chicken pasta..it has a peanut sauce and with a hint of spicyness. I have to warn you the servings here are very big so I suggest sharing a dish with somebody or maybe even order a half serving of the entree. Make sure to save room for some delicious cheesecake

Hawaiian Shave Ice and fish tacos

by iluvtrvl

Shave ice and fish tacos are local favorites. Hawaiian shave ice is not your run of the mill snowcone. It starts with the proper servicing dish - a plastic cup that is about the size of a cone, but at the top, flares out to about 5 or 6 inces. A scoop of vanilla ice cream goes in the cup section, then ice that has been "shaven" from a block from a special ice shaving machine is packed into a bowl, then flipped out of the bowl on the flared part of the cup. Flavored syrup (banana is my favorite) is poured over the ice.....as you eat the flavored ice, the drippings go into the cup, leaving you with the remaining flavoring and the ice cream....almost like 2 treats in one. On the beach-side of the Hilton Hawaiian Village there is a snack shop that makes these, but you will find shave ice in many areas throughout Hawaii. If you see it advertised, and don't see the shaving machine or the...

The Feast at Lele: Luau - at its finest!

by iluvtrvl

If you can only afford to do one luau while in Hawaii, make it The Feast at Lele, in Lahaina on Maui. While the price at $100 a head may make you sway, the other luau's charging you less will give you what you pay for....long lines in a buffet full of food that tastes like it came off a buffet. For the difference of $25 per person, it is well worth it. Executive Chef James McDonald from PacificýO Restaurant, and IýO Restaurant brings the flavor of Hawaii beachfront in a very intimate yet comfortable setting. The show is a sampling of Polynesian culture - Hawaiian, Somoan, Tahitian....you get the picture. However, the performers are close enough to hear their individual chants and to see the emotion in their faces as they perform. And the food - and service...well, as you are seated at your linen draped table, you are greeted by not one, but two servers who are yours for the evening. They...

Zippy's: Great Food at a Great Price!

by hamamatsujoe

Voted the Best Family Restaurant by Hawaiian residents, Zippy's restaurants offer Napoleon's bakeries, take-out windows, and "local-style" plates at very reasonable prices. Most are open 24 hours and some even serve alcohol. There currently are 23 restaurants on the island of Oahu and Zippy's is expanding to the Neighbor Islands. If you want to try some local (i.e., Hawaiian-style) food, Zippy's is the place to eat at. Zippy's is famous for their chili--they sell 110 tons a month! Besides the "normal" beef and bean chili, they also offer veggie chili (i.e., no beef) and even beanless chili!Other popular dishes include the chili dog plate, the classic Zip Pac (bento), healthful Dr. Shintani meals, Zip Min (noodle soup, similar to ramen, served with won ton, vegetables, and other goodies) and Portuguese bean soup.Again, if you want to try some Hawaiian-style food, Zippy's is the place to...

The Seaside Restaurant: The freshest Seafood in Hilo

by Keonaona

This family owned restaurant is surrounded by 30 acres of natural fish ponds where they farm raise the most delicious fish. They also serve Prime Rib and Chicken dishes for those not in a seafood mood. Wonderful and friendly ambience. The Fried Aholehole is to die for. Just perfectly done. The Steamed Mullet is also a winner. We also love the Seaside Chicken and Prime Rib.
