Ketchum / Sun Valley has a great bus system called Mountain Rides and is available year round and is free of charge in town. This bus system covers all of Ketchum, Sun Valley and takes you straight to Bald Mountain to get on the lifts. The schedule does change based on the season but is still one of the best ways to see and get around the Ketchum / Sun Valley Area.

We always drive over Galena Summit in summer or winter (in winter, make sure the road is open). You can pick up a cassette tape at the Sawtooth National Forest office in Ketchum that gives you a guided tour on your drive to Stanley, ID. The valley on the other side has several small lakes and is where the Salmon River starts.
During the summer, drive to Stanley and ask for directions to the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge. It is a great drive and the tour through the old gold dredge is cool. Check out this link: http://www.scenic-idaho.com/Yankee_Fork.htm

to find the best fishing spots. Feel free to talk with any of the local outfitters they all have a great knowledge of the area and can give you great information on what areas to go to and what the fish are biting on. Also check with the Ketchum Ranger station for any updates on the areas that you would like to go to make sure that all trails and access are open.
Also for you out of towners, you can purchase your fishing license right at any of the sporting shops.
Equipment: If you don't have your own equipment don't worry any local outfitter can rent you some and give good instruction on casting. Classes are available all year round.

Favorite thing: Ski Baldy. The best skiing in the world. Good for all levels. Beginner have their own mountain called Dollar Mountain.
Fondest memory: We have celebrated Christmas there several times. On Christmas Eve, Santa comes to the Ice Show at the lodge and skiers come down Dollar Mountain with torches. A great way to get you into the Holiday spirit.
I love to stand outside at night and look at the stars. The air is clear and crisp and the stars are so bright you could read a paper from their light.
