On Highway 20 about seven miles north of town there is a historical sign marker for Rattlesnake Station, the original site of Mountain Home, until the railroad was built in 1883 and the town moved to its present site.
On the opposite side of the highway you can drive down a gravel road to Teapot Dome another historic site for the Oregon Trail. Here you can hike over ruts from wagon wheels left in the ground.

Sit down restaurant, medium size place...leads to a bit of waiting occasionally. If you've been to real Italian restaurants keep your expectations low, they don't have a very big menu. They're prices are a bit steep for a small town, but it's a small francaise also located in the Boise area. Service is a bit slow...like the town. Thats my biggest problem....having dinner take over 2 hours due to slow service.
Favorite Dish: My favorite dish is Baked ziti....but they don't make it...so none. Their pizza is the absolute worst....yet the most expensive in town.

Cutesy 50's Diner. Pretty popular amongst the locals. The menu is a pretty good size, it has what most diners would have...a variety of different foods. The food is also good. My only problem with this place is the outfits that the waitresses wear, its distasteful for young girls their age to be wearing short revealing skirts....bending over.....need i say more...
Favorite Dish: the breakfast food is pretty good

I feel when you eat here, your cheating on Martin's...haha. The menu is very similar....it did use to be owned by the same people. Anywho, this is kinda located in the outskirts of Mtn Home. If your coming off the first exit for Mtn Home it'll be on your left. It's a bit beaten up looking....but it is open. It's very huge too. There's plenty of room. It is decorated Mexican theme....unlike the other places in town.
Favorite Dish: carne asada

Hole in the wall kind of place....which is a good thing actually. It's really the only place in town that I'll go to without cringing. It's a simple place, not fancy or anything, family owned. It's very well priced expecially for the amount of food you get...most people get the rest of the meal to go....no matter what you order. Chips and salsa, and a simple dessert automatically come with sitting down....no extra charge. They do have "American" itemson the menu....like grilled cheese....for the picky/simple kids.
Favorite Dish: I always order Carne Asada....i like it, but also because i have difficulties reading mexcian menus.....so unless there's a picture and an explaination of what it is...I'm just like that

Okay now so your staying in the hotel near the restaurant...don't get too excited. Yes it's within walking distance, but..........don't expect great food....yes other people eat there....it's like the one of maybe 3 open sit down places in the small town of mountain home. Don't expect super great service...for the most part it's okay, but the local teenagers work there mostly...and thats enough said. I've never had to wait....it has a weird kinda buffet to go along with the so-so menu. It's not a small place, so if your traveling with abundance of kids, don't worry theres room.
Favorite Dish: Oh gosh...nothing....sometimes my husband and I go there because we're just plain bored with everything else, that and we don't feel like driving to Boise.

I was initialy skeptical of Idaho Mexican food being from the San Antonio, Texas area but I was pleasantly surprised here. The food was very tasty and inexpensive. Have a Negro Modelo and enjoy good Mexican cuisine.

I'm not going to describe Wal-mart....most people know what it is...
What to buy: It's the main grocery store in town among selling everything else.
What to pay: It's the cheaper of grocery stores in town...Pauls is okay and Albertsons is kinda expensive.

A popular fishing and boating spot. It has a recreation spot and is actually pretty nice. Also on site is public restrooms....which is always a plus.
