Fitting its long role as a rail town, one of the key place sin downtown Pocatello is the old Railroad Depot, the Union Pacific station. This is an attractive, rather large and impressive building, but it is in need of restoration, with incongruous "modern" changes and some noticeable wear and tear, and it apparently is no longer functioning as a train station because there is no passenger rail service.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pocatello, due to its long history is one of the primary transportation, commercial, and population hubs in the region and the state, has a large downtown. It has many interesting buildings and it seems to be very functioning, with a number of restaurants and shops, and other businesses. However, on the weekend it's all shut down and almost devoid of people.

This is a good little coffeehouse with good coffee and some pastries, etc. Near Idaho State University, it is one of the few places in Pocatello that is actually open on Sunday.

Charlies is the greatest place in eastern idaho to have a great time. Nobody in this establishment will judge you for who you are! The people working within are so friendly towards you. It doesn't matter what background or lifestly you have, it is by far the best place i could ever reccomend for anyone to visit.

Dress Code: Those who go to and work at this establishment have no strict dress code, as long as certain areas are covered...at least as far as i know, i have not been and seen thing that would only be allowed at a nude beach...

Charlie's is not for the conservative in you. With regular drag shows and same-sex makeout sessions on the dance floor, Charlie's is known as the place to get wild. The full bar will mix up just about anything you can think of, but be prepared to get your own drinks, as service is notoriously slow on busy weekends.

Dress Code: Wild costumes won't be out of place here, but neither will jeans and a nice t-shirt. Feel free to wear your cocktail dress, a nice suit or pasties and shiney pants. The accepting crowd will approve of your inner you, no matter how it expresses itself on the outside.

Simplot Games is the Premier indoor Track and Field Event for high school students. The Games are held the Third weekend of February. Over 2,000 high school students attend from mostly the western United States and Canada. It is a truly international event as exchange students often compete under the flag of their home country. The event is free to the public.

The Games are not only attended by some of the best track talent in the country, but on Saturday the stadium will host 10-15 US Olympic Track Stars many who hold gold medals and are avid fans urging the kids on. Dick Fosbury is the Honorary Chairman. Others like Kevin Young, Andre Phillips, Stacy Dragilla and Rulon Gardner are there often. Most years a top class para-olympian will compete against an olympian as the crowd stands and screams their support.

Each year many meet and national records are beat. It is faced paced, well organized and awsome to watch. The boys 55 meter race can have more than 25 heats which are run at three minute intervals. Air traffic controllers would be envious.

The home town atmosphere, the energy of the atheletes, the specatacle of records just can't be beat.

Equipment: Simpot Games are held in the Holt Mini Dome which was the first indoor college football arena. The Games are held in February which can be fairly cold. Warm clothing, stadium cushions are helpful.
