Arlington Heights Things to Do

  • Wagering on the Races at Arlington

I think that horse racing is one of the most excing sports because it features the beauty of these magnificent thoroughbreds, their speed and strength, and the agility of the jockeys. Horse racing can also be a way to make some bucks if you know how to wager. When you go to the teller's window, do this:1. First, tell what track you are wagering on...

Click the photo to get a great view.Top photo: entrance to the Million Room with it Green and White motif.Bottom Photo: inside Million Room looking out on the race trackWe always watch the races from the Million Room which is on the 4th level and has a glorious view of the track, is air-conditioned, has personal monitors at the tables, and serves...

  • Go Out to the Paddock Area

I recommend that you go outside to the Paddock area to see the horses and jockeys up close. You can see the size of the horse, how calm or skittish the horse is, if the horse is wearing blinders or not, and if his/her legs are taped. Also, if you love horses, you will simply enjoy seeing these beautiful creatures. The Paddock Area is the area where...

  • Chicago style Hot Dog

You are close enough to Chicago to try a hot dog. Chicago style dogs start with Vienna Beef Sausage, on a bed of chopped onions, topped with sweet peppers, cucumber, tomato slices, and a quarter dill pickle, served on a poppy seed dog bun, and garnished with mustard, salt and pepper.Very Messy!!! Very Good!!!

  • Spend time with friends

Terri and Greg invited me for this weekend at the Breeder's Cup. They flew in from the east, and I from the north. It is always good to spend time with friends. My parents also came and dad is pictured here.

  • Arlington Park

An afternoon at the track, what could be better. Get your Racing Form, and pick some winners! The park is beautiful, the jockeys are colorful in their silks, and the horses are ready to run.

Arlington Heights Restaurants

  • Great Mexican and authentic decor

The restaurant has authentic decor, with stucco walls, themed paintings, posters and music. There are booth tables as well as taller bar tables. This is only one of two "Fuego" restaurants in the Chicago area. They do not spread their efforts too thin, thereby making these two great quality places. Simply put, there is nothing bad on the menu. The...

  • Spanish tapas

We've eaten at La Tasca twice with friends, the food is very good but it's a long trip for us since we have lots of other Spanish options closer to where we live. But it's a good option should you be out in Arlington Heights at the racetrack or on your way from O'Hare. Tapas are small plates of Spanish dishes so it's a good place to go with a big...

  • Asian food court

Mitsuwa Marketplace has a food court located inside with a choice of Chinese dim sum, Korean fast food, Japanese fast food, sushi and a ramen noodle house. The food is hit and miss, nothing we tried was terrible but a couple of the items were a little bland.CASH ONLY Mama House-Korean fast food-we tried a seafood pancake and fried gyozu, the...

Arlington Heights Nightlife

  • Love La tasca

Absolutely love this Tapas restaurant. We have been going to La Tasca for past 16 years with boy friend (now Hubby), girls night out and for large group parties. The food has improved over the years tremendously. Some of our favorites are baby octopus, sun dried dated, herbed goat cheese, beef kebabs, calamari, paella, and of course the Sangria and...

  • Tastiest tapas

La Tasca tapas restaurant of Arlington Heights is the most highly acclaimed restaurants in Arlington Hts for the past 16 years. We believe that out of the half dozen tapas restaurants we have tried in Chicago land area that La Tasca is simply the one with most flavors and welcoming staff. The combination of quality of their tapas, festive and...

Many people work in or visit Chicago. The MARTA (train) will take you there, or if you are in Chicago and are inspired by my page, will bring you here. Like everything in Arlington Heights the trainstation is very picturesque and clean.

Arlington Heights Shopping

  • Shop for All Kinds of Horse-Related...

Click the photo for a better lookWhen my sister Ronda came to visit me a few years ago, we took her to Arlington International Race Track. Her husband used to own a race horse, and so she wanted to buy him something at the gift shop. It was the first time that I had been inside this wonderful shop. She ended up buying him a t-shirt and a lighter...

  • Nice setting for shopping

This is what a shopping center can look like, not the ugly strip malls that skirt American roadsides. There are many shops, and a movie theatre. Other cities should use this as an example for planned shopping. Get flowers for your loved one while she shops for a new outfit at Ann Taylor's Loft. Then get fresh bread, you can't beat the smell, at...

Arlington Heights Warnings and Dangers

  • Tragedy Can Happen

As much as I love to go to the races, I always harbor a fear in my mind of a tragedy happening. This is because one July 4th Allan, his sister, brother-in-law, and I went to Arlington International Race Track for a fun day.We were having such a day when suddenly, it became a very sad day. All four of us bet on the same horse in the feature race. It...

  • Airport Security -- What a Joke!!

After going through airport security screening. Where they will take away cuticle scissors, the airlines issued metal forks with the food service (ha!). I bet mom could do some damage with this fork. I kid you not.

  • Confusion in the big city

Getting out of O'Hare can be confusing. There are stations for contacting your hotel for shuttle information, but it is such a large and busy place, you still may have trouble! The Radisson told me door 3. But all the exits were marked door 3!!. The Hotel shuttles are out door 3A, then across three lanes to the Hilton. Across are three doors where...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: For the fall weather, pack warm clothes and foul weather gear

Photo Equipment: Long lenses are needed to catch the action, even if it distorts the depth. Portrait lenses are fine in the paddock, and wide angle for the vistas.

Miscellaneous: If you are in for the races, bring your ticket, Daily Racing Form, Binoculars, money, and cigars!!

    Ticket, please.

  • New Arlington Park International Race...

Arlington Park International Race Track was completed in 1927; then why does it look brand new? Well, in 1985, the beautiful race track and club house burned to the ground! But let's go back a minute. In 1927 H.D. Brown from California decided to open a race track in Arlington Heights, Illinois, because it was only 23 miles from Chicago, and it was...
