Aurora is a city divided into two parts: old and new. The new city is wealthy, suburban-type sprawl that surrounds the old city, which is characterized by densely packed neighborhoods in various states of decay. While not what I would call dangerous, there are gangs, drugs, prostitution (occasionally) and other ills that crop up in low-income, low-wage areas. The old Aurora, with it's decaying infrastructure, housing and minority majority, is an area that has essentially been abandoned by the majortiy majority in the new Aurora.
IT MAY SOUND CRAZY, BUT IT IS TRUE. MANY YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN AS GANG MEMBERS, SHOT, AND KILLED. TAKE CAUTION IN ALL NEIGHBORHOODS AND

Avoid Hill Avenue around the Hansen Motel and Chris' Groceries. The downtown area can be a seedy place as well. A lot of homeless, hobos, drug dealers, and prostitutes near the Broadway (Route 25) and LaSalle area. As with any unfamiliar city, keep your eyes open. There are always police cruising this area.
