While visiting the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University, I really enjoyed all the beautiful buildings. Some is quite old; others are quite new; however, they all blend beautifully. I am able to show only five [limitation on photographs] 1. A striking modern building with an unusual piece of art atop the portico is the McPherson Theatre which is part of the Alice Millar Center for the Fine Arts (Schools of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts). 2. A rather new building is the Center for Natural Sciences "which features both teaching and research laboratories and houses the latest scientific equipment, lecture halls, seminar rooms, and faculty offices." 3. The Hansen Student Center just recently won a major architectural award. It has a flexible open space for such things as guest speakers, entertainment, and casual meetings. This facility was student designed and includes a two-story bookstore, an indoor/outdoor cafe, a coffee shop, and offices for campus organizations. 4. The Ames Library has extensive collections and computing resources. It is five stories high. It has a variety of study facilities such as individual carrels and group study rooms. Technology is integrated into its design. 5. The International House [Kemp Hall] was constructed from 1903 until 1906. It was acquired by the university in 1912 and at one time was a resident hall. Today it is occupied by students who participate in the International House Program. It has spacious rooms and is a coed facility with a total capacity of 30 men and women. These five examples just provide a "flavor" of the fine architecture at Illinois Wesleyan University. Leave a Comment Directions: All Over the Illinois Wesleyan University Campus

Ouh-hou ! by Muya The story of State Farm starts with George J. Mecherle, one of the leading farmers of Bloomington. When after 20 years of faming, his wife wasn’t able to help him anymore, he took a job in a small company selling insurance. He soon felt that the rates proposed by the company didn’t suit the needs of farmers and suggested a better way to sell insurance to his employer. His answer was : "If you think you've got such a good idea, why don't you start your own company?". And State Farm was born in 1922… In 80 years, State Farm Insurance Companies® has grown from a small farm mutual auto insurer to one of the world's largest financial institutions, but always keeping Mecherle’s philosophy of insurance coverage at a fair price. State Farm’s main building is located in Bloomington and employes 14 000 people there. As Terry is employed there, we were allowed to enter the premises and enjoy the pool and miniature golf. A great place to spend a hot summer day :-) Leave a Comment Directions: Bloomington, Illinois

curb appeal by yooperprof The Stevensons are one of the great dynasties of Illinois politics. (I'm told that there is a family in the city of Chicago which has had a certain minor impact on political developments there.) The roots of the family are here in Central Illinois, as Bloomington was their power base at the turn of the 19th century to the 20th. It's easy today to comprehend the how the wholesome appearance of this neighborhood contributed to the appeal of the Stevensons. (The style of this house is called "Italianate," and it was popular in towns across the United States in the 1870s and early 1880s.) Leave a Comment

solid and respectable by yooperprof Perhaps not a great county courthouse, but still a dignified. However, county operations moved out some time ago, and now the building is home to the McLean County Historical Society Leave a Comment Address: courthouse square
