Tom's is a short drive north of Carbondale in Desoto. When I was young, it was noted for its steaks and frog legs. It is now a gourmet restaurant, with a European chef, and without a doubt serves the best food in Southern Illinois.

Address: On State Route 51 in Desoto.
The first business was built in 1955 by James Campbell. The hotel was destroyed by fire in the early 1860’s. Then it was purchased in 1870 to build a new story hotel called the “Newell House Hotel.” The building was constructed in 1871-72.
The building was purchased by James Pease in 1899, and remodeled with a new Italianate-inspired design.
The remodeled four story 51 room hotel was billed as the most complete one. Soon after reopening, it was severely damage by fire in 1901. The unfortunate building was re-built
again by Pease but it was only a three story structure. The building was renovated again in 1914 and the exterior was covered with stucco to resemble stone. This new building which was named “The Newell Hotel” acquired the name of “Robert’s Hotel” in 1930’s. In the 1960’s a metal frame was applied over the building to modernize the look.
IN 2003 the “Newell House Café” and 2005 the Grotto was added in the lower level. In 2007 the owner of the Newell building bought the Herald Printing Building, located on the same block, to convert it into an “Ultra Lounge”
You can find a variety of delicious dishes served by kind and nice waiters and waitresses and you can also enjoy a variety of drinks and shots. The restaurant is visited by very nice people from different places in Illinois so if you are interested in having a very good conversation with the very friendly people from this state this is the place you ought to be.
Favorite Dish: It is really hard to tell you because I like all the food which is served in this nice restaurant

This is a great place to go for Mexican food in our area. It's a great atmosphere, acceptable for families, and also lively enough for a party. The food is a great value (portions are huge!), and the margaritas are the best in town. Literally! Tres Hombres was voted #1 in Mexican food this year!

Mugsy's has alot of music concerts and karoake. Lots of friendly waitresses. You don't have to dress fancy to have a good time. A good place to be yourself, also a good place to lose yourself in alot of fun if you're bored. The food is out-of-this-world fantastic.
Favorite Dish: Their Mugsy Maguire salads and any of their pizzas are the bomb!
