This has grown into a chain (the original is at North Ave.) so check to see if there is one close to you. I have even brought my dad to Flat Top. It is a good place to try something different.
If you're skilled in Asian cookery, you'll do fine. Just air on the side of less (in terms of sauce is more). If you mess up- repeat trips through the line are allowed - and often necessary to avoid leaving disappointed. There's nothing like going out to eat and having to cook your own meal. Waits are long on weekends - up to an hour on occasion. But it's a warm and friendly place and spending that time at the bar is not a hardship. Who knew such a wonderful restaurant would pop up in this neighborhood. It caught my eye on a drive and we couldn't resist. And thank god! What a meal. The ambience is warm and inviting. The service is wonderful. And the food is out of this world. What a gem! Magnolia Café us a great and welcome addition to the neighborhood. Definitely my favorite restaurant in the city!
The menu changes often so it keeps me coming back again and again. I have yet to have a bad meal here. I am forever impressed with the food, service and the eclectic wine list. Ghirardelli has been making chocolate for over 150 years, which makes it America's second oldest chocolate company. Even though the original Ghirardelli store opened in San Francisco in 1852, Chicago is one of the lucky few cities outside of the San Francisco area to have a Ghirardelli ice cream and chocolate shop (which I can only see as a tribute to Chicagoans' love of good food!). The store is located on the Magnificient Mile, just across the street from the Hershey store (!). We went there on a Saturday night and the place was packed - we had to stand in line for a few minutes before we could place our order but the free samples and menu we were given to look at made the time go by very fast :o) You can either buy some chocolate or get some ice cream - Ghirardelli's signature hot chocolates are also an option! You first place your order then wait at the Deli-like counter to get your ice cream or drink. My two recommendations to those who can handle their sugar: the Decadent Drinking Chocolate or the Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Sundae. You might not feel so great afterwards, but it'll still be worth it! February 2008 update-drove by here and although the sign was still up, the restaurant was clearly out of business. Want good pierogis? Come and visit me down in Whiting IN or head to one of the many Polish restaurants in Chicago! We ended up at Pierogi Factory after being thwarted at our first 3 attempts to find some dessert up in the Lakeview neighborhood. Baladoche which serves Belgian liege waffles was ridiculously priced, $5 for a waffle, toppings extra and they didn't even have the toppings I wanted. The 2nd try was La Creperie, but really, $10 for a dessert crepe??? Then it was Ann Sather's for cinnamon rolls but they were closed so we stopped by here. The Pierogi Factory is a small casual eat in or take out restaurant that serves 15 different kinds of pierogi plus a selection of other Eastern European specialities. At 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon, we were not surprisingly the only people in the restaurant.
We had to try the meat pierogi ($4.99 for 6, $7.99 for 12), my favorites. You can get them fried or boiled, we opted for fried and I suggest you do too, one of the best meat pierogis I've had, the exterior of the pierogi reminded me a bit of fried apple pies from McDonald's. They are served with sour cream, the only way they could make them better is to put a little onion and bacon with them. We also tried the strawberry pierogis ($4.99 for 6, $7.99 for 12) since we were, after all, looking for dessert. Served with powdered sugar and whipped cream, they were good but nothing I would be compelled to order again. Leave a Comment

The Tribune critic gave Aigre Doux 3* out of 4, the chowhounds seemed to be overwhelming in favor of it, the Chicago Reader gave it high marks so I was a little surprised when it didn't wow me. The food was solid and elegantly presented but, as with most trendy restaurants in Chicago, overpriced. I might have rated it a little higher if not for the prices. We went on a Thursday night at 6 pm when it wasn't crowded but as the evening progressed, the tables filled up and the noise level became fairly high. It's decorated modernly, the tables are fairly close together. Service was pleasant and prompt and no dirty looks when we occupied the table for several hours. Aigre Doux (ay-greh-DOO) means "sour and sweet" in French, the restaurant is owned by married chefs Mohammed Islam and Malika Ameen, formerly of celebrity hangout Chateau Marmont in LA.
The meal starts off with complimentary parmesan bread that is very good, eat what's on your plate and they come by and give you more. We split an appetizer from the specials menu, a garlicky soup over a crabcake which they split into two portions for us ($14). The soup was very flavorful, the crabcake was just OK. For an entree, I ordered the rack of lamb ($34) prepared medium rare which was good, it came with truffled grits which I didn't care for. For dessert, we ordered two and shared, the first is their signature dessert, sticky toffee pudding with Devonshire ice cream. It was very good but the portion was very small for $10. The other was chocolate malted, again a bit small for $10, but very tasty. Our total bill before tip was $131 with one cocktail each. It's the best place to eat Thai food, with a good menu of cheap, but excellent food. You can get Thai and other East Asian beer here.

Dining here is an interesting concept. There is a buffet spread of vegetarian dishes and some meats. You fill your plate and then leave it for the chef to cook. You insert color coded sticks for instructions e.g. "wholewheat only" or "have allergies" etc. You may go back as often as you wish. I found it fun experimenting and chosing a different combination of foods each time. I do not remember what I paid, so cannot put figures here. I do remember thinking that the value was very good. One of the finest restaurants in Chicago -- NoMi stands for North Michigan. The chef has recently changed to Christophe David and the Chicago Tribune responded by upping the "stars" to 3 1/2. It remains a really special dining option in Chicago. . The food is excellent and the service classically unobtrusive. If you get lucky you will get a table in the protruding curved window with a view of the Water Tower.
This was before my picture-taking days -- I just remember wonderful tastes, including some asparagus that was divine! Great Italian food at reasonable prices. The baked goat cheese appetizer is great, and the Caprese Panini (tomato, mozzarella, basil sandwich) reminded me so much of Italy! One word of warning. They take cash only.
Tomatoes, Basil, Mozzarella, the tastes of Italy. Most dishes included these... the tomatoes and basil were fresh and aromatic, the mozzarella was fresh and of good texture, so what more can you ask? A great lunch spot if you're in the Lincoln Park area. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 1966 N.
