Pegasus Restaurant & Taverna: Try Dining on their Rooftop!
I love all of the restaurants in Greektown, so if you have time, you must try one of them! Pegasus is special to me because you can eat outdoors, which is not too often in Chicago! Their rooftop dining area is great where you can eat, drink and view the city. They also have great Greek food, and a wide variety of entrees to choose from!
Favorite Dish: For an appetizer, if you've never tried it, "Saganaki" (flaming cheese) is a must, and "Taramosalata" fish roe spread is one of my favorites. If you want soup before your meal, try the lemon rice. Greek olives and feta cheese are also an appetizer, which you should order on the side to go with your meal.
As an entree, there are many Greek dishes you can choose. All Greek restaurants have many lamb entrees, which is one of their specialties, as well as special ethnic Greek dishes. There are also various chicken, pasta, and kabob entrees, and at Pegasus a wide variety of seafood entrees, too.

Pegasus Restaurant & Taverna: I was sick from eating here
We decided to try another greek restaurant on the last evening and I wish we hadn't as I ended up violently ill about an hour after eating throwing up into a garbage bin on the road, I did wait for the 2 police officers to go into the gyros (kebab) house before vomiting just in case.
Perhaps there is a lot to be said for Gordon Ramsay's comment about keeping menu's shorter as how could all the food possibly be fresh for all meals. Sandy ordered the saganaki cheese which came flaming on the plate but no cries of Oooopa. I decided to order the mousaka off the specialities list and it tasted alright but obviously it wasn't!
The young waiter was quite abrupt and pushy trying to force us to spend more money. Also there was hardly anyone in the restaurant not a good sign and it looked like they wanted us out. The only nice thing I can say is they had a good mural of a typical greek white village painted on the wall.
Pegasus: The main courses
see above...also, a live Greek band plays here daily on weeknights on the rooftop, where the menu changes to mezes (appetizers) and desserts during dinner.
Favorite Dish: Spinach filo pie...leaf spinach, flaky filo, and excellent fresh feta cheese...mmm!!
Pegasus: Greektown is one great place after another!
This is one of the 10 or 15 Greek resaurants lining Halsted Street in Chicago's fantastic culinary neighborhood of Greektown. It boasts the advantage of having a rooftop cafe overlooking downtown Chicago, and the menu is fantastic!
Favorite Dish: The saganaki here is the best version I've had in Greektown so far. The spinach filo pie is also fantastic, as is the galaktobouriko.
Pegasus: And most importantly...dessert.
I love the Greek coffee here...while it's a little less strong than typical Greek coffee, there is less "sludge" at the bottom, so you actually get more out of the cup. Also, they pore it into your cup out of a cute brass pitcher at your table.
Incidentally, the dining area inside the restaurant is beautiful, with murals of the Greek islands on the walls. So you won't miss the ambience of the al fresco dining if it's too cold up there.
Favorite Dish: The galaktobouriko was the excellent. The baklava was also good, but heavy on the honey--I actually prefer the baklava at Greek Islands across the street a bit more. However, the ambience here makes up for it!
Pegasus is a popular Greektown restaurant. What sets it apart from the others is the rooftop dining experience. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the rooftop is open for lunch and dinner, weather permitting. The view of the skyline is beautiful. Some nights feature a live Greek band.
Pegasus is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. It closes at midnight on weeknights, 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Dress is casual, but for a weekend dinner on the rootop, you should dress nicer. Take advantage of the free valet parking.
Favorite Dish: The bread is excellent. I like the Horiatiki (Village) salad, any lamb dish, Kalamari, and Xifias Souvlaki (swordfish kabobs).
The appetizer with beets is a ripoff. You barely get any beets. Also, the stuffed kalamari appetizer isn't that good.
Don't order gyros! Please!
Pegasus: Nice view!
In how many places can you have a quiet, relaxed gourmet experience with a view of the world's tallest building behind you?? :)
