Santorini: Dessert Time!
Favorite Dish: The Sokolatina, or chocolate mousse cake, is an original Greek creation, and this version has incredibly smooth, cocoa-flavored mousse and a moist sponge cake. Their version of baklava has bigger nuts than usual and is perfectly honeyed! The little cup of super-strong Greek coffee here is definitely up to par as well.
Santorini: The main course
A bottomless basket of crusty bread and olive oil accompanies your meal, too!
Favorite Dish: This is my vegetarian moussaka main course (about $8) -- nice layer of potato, fresh grated cheese sprinkled over the top, and excellent veggies.
Santorini: The interior
We just happened to be here mid-afternoon on Labor Day, so that explains the very empty seating area! However, it's very nicely decorated in artifacts of the Greek islands, and the smell of a wood-burning oven fills the air.
Santorini: Another great Greektown experience
This restaurant is sandwiched between my two other Greektown favorites--Greek Islands on one side, and Pegasus on the other. This one, however, has the friendliest wait staff, most dependable vegetarian menu, and best saganaki!
Favorite Dish: The vegetarian moussaka and flamed saganaki are fantastic! (See tips below.)
Probably the forgotten restaurant of Chicago's Greek Quarter. The decor is typical mediterranean: Pottery on the walls and the floor. The atmosphere is relaxed and the prices, fair. The service has always been correct.
Favorite Dish: Any of the lamb dishes are wonderful
