The American Girl Place: Where to Shop with Preteen Girls

    Michigan and Chicago

This is THE Desitination place for little girls between the ages of 5 and 12. A venue for selling the American Girl dolls.

The store has its own theatre- The Circle of Friends- a musical which features seven girls planning a birthday quilt for their friend Laura. Each girl has made a quilt square inspired by the story of an American Girl from long ago. The play is $26 per person and reservations are needed.

Included in the experience is the American Girl Cafe. Your meal arrives on a whimsical black-and-white trolley, and includes a surprise souvenir to take home. There’s even a Treat Seat at the table for your doll! The Cafe is the perfect place for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and parties.

What to buy: The American Girl company started by selling dolls based on historical periods. Now they have branched out to include contemporary doll collections. As they say on their website "At American Girl, we’re committed to helping you protect your daughter’s individuality, intellectual curiosity, and imagination."

What to pay: Depends on how good you are at saying "no"

American Girl Place: Moms on a mission

This is a large specialty store that sells the American girl Dolls and all the extras to go with. Each doll has a story related to the era in which they lived and the events that took place during their lives. You can buy doll clothes, matching clothes for your daughter, videos, books and other accessories to bring your doll to life.

The store was awash with smiling little girls and "mothers on a mission". The girls loved their dolls and everything the store had to offer. The moms were intent on enjoying the dolls as much as the kids. (I wonder if dads would do the same in a GI Joe store?)

Anyway, it's a cool little store with lots of merchandise to help you lighten your wallet.

  • American Girl Place: Great Small Hotel

by MaryAllison Written Feb 9, 2007

We recently stayed at the Amalfi Hotel (listed on the american Girl place website in travel tips) This is a small botique hotel. What a Gem. The services was outstanding and the hotel accomodations, bedding, Aveda spa products in the bathroom, and my favorite breakfast included in the rate and served ON EVERY GUEST ROOM FLOOR ( How cool!!! my daughter loved it) in the evening they have alounge that serves sodas and for the adults AN OPEN BAR!! Moma can use a martini after a long day at AGP. I would definately stay there again and it not that far a walk to the store, Super value and the hotel is cotemporary yet family friendly. By the way they allow dogs!!!!!
