The Chicago Auto Show was first staged in 1901 when the horse and buggy was still the preferred method of individual transportation. But Chicago has always been a bit ahead of its time so it is only fitting that the Auto Show for the "horseless carriages" made its debut here.
2012 marks the 104th edition of the longest running auto exposition in North America.
The event runs in February each year and the 2012 edition runs from Friday, February 10th to Sunday, February 19. So essentially you get 2 weekends and a full working week to go down and look around at the next car you want to buy or just have a look at what the future will bring.
We've been going to the Auto Show for over 25 years, usually when we are in the market for a new car. It is a great place to check out all the different manufacturer models in one big showplace so that you can then have a good understanding and feel for what you might like. The last time we went was a couple of years ago when Sue was ready to trade in our last van and finally get something a little more stylish. She did pick out the type of car she wanted including colors and options, so that when we went to the dealership to buy her car we didn't have to worry about being indecisive when it came to dealing with the sales people.
The cost for 2012 is $11 for adults, $7 for seniors aged 62 and over, $7 for children 7 - 12, Free admission for those under 7. Half price coupons are usually available at some gas stations, new car dealers and looking through the internet.
You can park at McCormick Place (where the show is held) or better yet park at the Grant Park Underground Lot (much cheaper) and take the free shuttle bus.
we all know about chicagos michigan ave and all the shopping along it, and about all of the great food and sights but...
one of the best things about Chicago is every year they have the "Chicago international Auto show" The only one bigger is the one in detroit, so if you like cars or your in the market for a new car check out the auto show.
the auto show is usually starts 2 weekends before valentines day and goes until the weekend before valentines day and is located in the Mc Cormic Center
also in the same building (the McCormic Center) they have Hot Import Nights every year (HIN for short) where people who have suped up their cars get to show them off, its quite the show with cars everywhere, music playing, DJs with dancers on stage, breakdancing competitions, dance comps, and all kinds of things to do. its basically like one big party with cars everywhere
when visiting the Mc Cormic place expect to pay for parking and its chicago so expect confusing roads that are one way here and not there and so on. you can usually park at soldier field and then they run free shuttles to the Mc cormic place to and from the parking areas. the parking is worse during the chicago auto show and not as bad during hot import nights
keep in mind also the Mc Cormic Place holds TONS of different events throughout the year and this place is HUGE!
If you're interested in cars, or know someone who is... come to the Chicago Annual Auto Show. All the new models are there, including concept cars and special cars from movies, etc. You never know what you're going to see, and it gets bigger and bigger every year.
