    Buckingham Fountain

by SnoopySue Written Feb 4, 2005

One of the most impressive sights in Chicago. The fountain's 1 1/2 gallons (5,7 million liters) of water recirculate through a computer-operated pumping system at a rate of 14,000 gallons (53,000 liters) per minute. Hundreds of spotlights hidden within the fountain are used to create a dazzling show of colored lights. The 20-minute shows, set to music, are held from dusk to 11pm every hour on the hour, from April to October.

This is one of the prettiest sights to see in Chicago, it's only open in the summer and early fall..at night they have lights and every hour at the top of the hour the fountainhead goes about 4 stories so there is a huge spray..kids sometimes stand in it..its fun..

The spectacular Buckingham Fountain of Chicago

by kharmencita Written Dec 24, 2012

One of its famous attractions at the Grand Park is the Buckingham Fountain which was built in 1927 in honor of Clarence Buckingham. The design was inspired by a fountain found in Versailles Palace in France.
It is considered as one of the World´s largest Water Fountain with a basin that measures about 280 feet in diameter and height of 23 feet which has the ability to eject up to 150 feet water in the air. During the day it performs every hour from 8:oo am until 11:00 pm spectacular turbulent geyser- like water shows to enjoy the people and in the evening a choreographed water with red light and music is a big attraction.
The vapor phase that is being ejected and sprayed in the atmosphere is too refreshing especially during summer. The fountain runs from middle April to middle of October and depending upon the weather conditions. It is awesome and amazing! So don´t miss it!

...is Buckingham Fountain, all aglow on a summer night. Every few minutes, the colors of the lighting will change, and a huge spurt of water will shoot towards the sky. Just beautiful!

    Oooo...ahhh....

The Buckingham fountain is really amazingly beautiful under the blue sky. I made a wish there, but it hasn't come true by now. But it's not harmful to try.

I'm just loading pictures and place holders until I can get back and add some text. Come back in November and see what's been added.

You get a great view of the city from the fountain

by gover Written Sep 18, 2009

We sat by the fountain during the Taste of Chicago to enjoy the views (and our cheesecake!)
Only disappointment that during "The Taste" they shut the lights off the fountain at 9:00 pm.

Buckingham Fountain is one of the nation's most famous fountains, a public icon of Chicago and the center piece of Grant Park. Try to rent a bike to wander around the park.

This fountain is a great experience to see, especially on a warm summer day. This fountain is famous, it has been in many shows and movies. At night it lights up into different colors.
