The Shedd Aquarium. It may look cool from the outside, but watch out--the fish collection there was pretty bad, especially the fresh water area!!!! In some tanks, I could only see a couple of small, ugly, boring, dark-colored fish swimming in the dirty green water!! The small crappy aquarium back home has more varieties than that!!! Oh, and the dolphin show...my god! I thought it was a joke!! Definitely not worth the price (forgot how much though) I paid for!!! Please skip this place.
The John G. Shedd Aquarium is fun for the whole family, or just for yourself if you are single. Known to be one of the best aquariums in the nation. Drinks at the bar in the John Hancock Building give you a view of the whole town you will never forget.
If you go on a weekend or holiday, the line stretches about a block long. Outdoors in the sun. At least there are overpriced food stalls readily available. I waited over 2 hours outside last time I went.
Unique Suggestions: You can buy some of the more expensive ticket options online or as part of City Pass. Next time I go, I will for sure go that route. Maybe if its your only plan for the day, its worth the line for cheaper tickets, but if you have more to see/have kids/its hot or bad weather I suggest getting tickets in advance.
Parking cost more than our two entrance tickets! Plus 30 minutes of trying to find the parking lot. It is not easy to find, and GPS didn't help.
Unique Suggestions: Their website has information on public transportation. While you're there buying your tickets in advance (see my other Trap) check it out.
Visit the John Shedd Aquarium ... Interesting things to see :-))) There is a free entrance day during the week.
The Chicago Aquarium seemed quite a bit overrated to me. Maybe it's because I'm not 5. However, if you have kids, I would still suggest that you visit it. Same goes for the Planetarium.
