For us the Kiswaukee River was a point of quiet that we would visit often to get away from our university studies. It was also always a source of amazement to think that this small river was much larger than the better known JORDAN River, no biblical proportions in the Jordan River..

De Kalb isn't exactly a culinary oasis, and the best place to eat, the place I eat nearly every day, is definitely Pita Pete's. Though a fast-food joint, they serve healthy pitas filled with your choice of ingredients. They also have Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The interior of the place is always clean, and the service is fast. Pete himself is often running things.
Favorite Dish: My favorite pita: the Garden Pita with lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, kalamata olives, feta, and tahini. It's addictive.

If you happen to find yourself in DeKalb Illinois, make sure to drop by and say hi at Buhr's Landscaping..Herb and Linda the owners were like family to us during our time in DeKalb. We missed them this trip, but we did find Marcia and Angie holding down the shop.

Well maybe as a national monument or national park this will not make the mark, but for the Sampson family this was a new beginning when our daughter Tal was born here, so we took Tal here on our trip to the US, a sort of "roots" visit.

This is where we spent our student years in DeKalb while we got our degrees you can find it at 321 Franklin... for us this is a "historical focal point"...we spent an important part of our lives here, not to mention (or rather I will mention) that our daughter Tal was born HERE !!
