I work on and off at a store in Evanston that sells alcohol, and it's a whopping 14.5% sales tax. I'm not much of a drinker, but since I'm cheap, I will not pay an extra 6% when I do imbibe!!!! The biggest complaint of both visitors and locals? The parking meters! They are always hungry and will gobble up a pocketful of quarters in no time. Their local wardens - the metermaids and metermen - will strike you down with a fine in a flash the moment the little red 'feed me' flag goes up. So visitors: BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. Visitors from Chicago: TAKE THE EL!
