    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Lake Jacksonville has fishing, boating and camping. Nichols Park has fishing and you can also rent the pavilion for reunions. There are festivals on the downtown square twice a year and we have the Morgan County Fair in July. There are car races on Fridays.

    Vic's: Italian food and Pizza

    by Sunshine64 Written Jan 6, 2006

Vic's has been pizza institution in Springfield (about 30 miles to the east) for years. The Jacksonville location is part of the Pasta House franchise out of St. Louis, so they serve that great house salad along with all the other Pasta House menu items.

  • Chai House Tea Co.: Try Something New and Relaxing

by katinkerlee Written Aug 10, 2005

Chai House Tea Co. is a new concept for Jacksonville, and will be opening this September. It is a cozy, vintage Tea House Cafe with a relaxing atmosphere. They feature, breakfast items, tea, and coffee beverages, lunch and gourmet desserts. Thirties and Forties music fill the air and original oil paintings line the walls.

Favorite Dish: Chai House Tea Co. serves homemade, soups, quiches, many salads, and gourmet desserts. They offer a low carb and a healthier menu for those counting carbs or fats. They have a retail store where you'll find some of your favorite, loose leaf and bagged teas, along with Savannah Mixes and Davinci Syrups. If you just need a little snack, try a variety of Sugar Free chocolate covered nuts and fruits.

Taco Gringo: The Mexican Food of my Youth

    by Sunshine64 Updated Oct 25, 2002

This is a Mexican fast food joint that came before Taco Bell, at least in my mind. It was not origially part of a chain. For a while it was part of a regional chain, Jolly Tamale, but now it is back to Taco Gringo. The food has always been the same.

Favorite Dish: Sancho and Chips with cheese

A sancho is kind of like a Burrito. It's a tortilla filled with ground beef, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and taco sauce.

The chips have the cheese melted on top. It's real cheese, not some processed cheese dip. You can also get sauce on the chips.

    The Links

    by Sunshine64 Written Oct 25, 2002

The Links is a nice, 18-hole golf course in Nichols Park, on the southeast side of town. Because it's relatively new (with the last 15 years, maybe), there aren't many trees, so it can be scorching in the summer.

It's a nice course, especially for such a small town. It's rumored that people from St. Louis drive the 2.5 hours north to play it because the St. Louis public courses are so crowded.
