I honestly don't think you could make a mistake, referring to dress, tipping, language, or whatever, while you're in Illinois. With Chicago and St Louis (Missouri) as the two major cities, Illinois is a true crossroads of the USA. Come as you are! And be most welcomed! I've been advised to wear leather shoes and black pants while visiting Madrid, lest I stand out as a tourist! Our winters are cold, often rainy, but with occassional snows, and summers can be hot and sultry. So wear something comfortable for the season, and we'll not know you're from out-of-town. This state is just one of the many states in Central USA that is home to all who live here, and glad to meet all who visit.
