North Chicago Travel Guide

In Chicago, the Gay Pride Parade is the most colorful, fun, loud, busy, crazy event of the year. It falls in June--this year, it was yesterday afternoon, June 27th. My friend is an intern with NOW, the National Organization for Women, and so she invited me and our 2 other friends to carry the banner for NOW in the parade with her. It was such a fun day!!! Everyone cheered for us, because who doesn't love NOW? ;) and it was very exciting to see all the other crazy floats, and walk the several mile parade trail through Chicago's streets that burst over with people on the sides. Here are my pics...

Bluefin and Coast are two INCREDIBLY delicious restaurants in Wicker Park--my favorite destinations for sushi. My family likes Coast's maki better, but I'm a wee bit more partial to Bluefin. In any case, it's a win-win situation. : ) The maki are prepared beautifully, with the freshest-tasting fish. Ooh, and get the memori (sp?) at either place for dessert--it's ice cream wrapped in a yummy rice wrapping.

Get the "Coast Crab Maki" at Coast, it's their specialty.

At Bluefin--ANYTHING! The dragon roll is delish.

It is a small shop nestled betwen higher-scaled stores such as Nine West and Bebe. I have worked in this shop on and off for five years, and its products and employees are all wonderful! The special thing about it is that you literally design your own fragrance--with the help of the employees, of course. There are hundreds of scents to sample and choose from, and we mix the scents for you to create an original scent, just for you! The shop also has lotions, skin care, candles, incense, bath products, shampoo, etc.

What to pay: It is a very inexpensive shop--you can pay anywhere from $7 for a small vial of scented oil to $50 on a huge basket of products.

North Chicago has some open drug and prostitution markets which include Martin Luther King Drive and Broadway. Heroin and crack cocaine are some of the major proplems. North Chicago is mostly safe with only 5 murders in a city with 30,000 people.

Favorite thing: See the city of it... not just brookfeild zoo.... the best is the city... visit the art gallery rather than the brook feild zoo... was great but lacked to be fun.(expensive!)

Fondest memory: seeing the monkey's in there 'natural' or how should i say there provacative way? but rather they have hormone issue's.
