Good hiking shoes or boots, comfortable clothes that you wouldn't mind getting muddy.
In the spring and summer you will probably want insect repellant. Mosquitos can make for a miserable hike.
The woods have always been full of whitetail deer. You may want to bring a telephoto lens to zoom in on a deer. Leave a Comment

Illinois is a pretty long state, north to south. It depends on where you are going for temperatures and what you should pack. The north end of the state could be buried in snow and the southern part might just have rain. Or in the summer, the north could be mid-70's and the south in the 80's or 90's. And the southern part is kind of swampy too. Leave a Comment

Definitely tennis shoes. You will see business people in their suits and tennis shoes...lots of walking in Chicago, so why not be comfortable...and do as the 'Romans' do. It is called the 'Windy City' so dress appropriately! Leave a Comment

Bring as little baggage as possible if coming into O'Hare Airport. Its VERY busy and it takes time to get your luggage. Consider a backpack to carry water and camera and maybe your jacket.
Winter....bring WARM clothes. Snow and cold wind. Summer....bring light clothes and maybe a light jacket for the evening winds that come up.
There are great parks along Lake Michigan for camping Leave a Comment

Dress accordingly to the season you will come here for a visit. We have four seasons in Chicago - with often very humid and hot summers and bitter cold winters at times.
Dont wast your luggage space, you can get it here for next to nothing.
Bring you photo equpment with you of course, but you can get a really good deal on a camera right here in Chicago.
Great beaches are to be found at and around Chicago. Some are downtown and others in the suburbs. City of Chicago beaches are free to get into. In the suburbs one is often required to pay a small fee. Leave a Comment

by bhodgson Always bring a jacket and be prepared for the weather to change. The weather in the Chicago area can vary as much as 20 degrees F from the north side to the south side and the precipitation can vary from none to inches while the skies vary from sunny skies to thunder storms. If you do not like the weather-wait 5 minutes and it iwll change. In the summer the jacket is for the air conditioned buildings.
Great photo opportunites on the lakefront, at the zoo in the loop and all around great shots. Leave a Comment

Chicago is called the windy city and the name should speak for itself. There are strong gusts and in the fall/winter/spring it can get downright cold. Bring a windbreaker or some kind of wind proof jacket approiate for the season. Leave a Comment
