Illinois What to Pack

    Chicago What to Pack

I like luggage with many pockets, but you can use about anything. When I get to a new place, I usually buy a bag from that place to carry around and put in all the miscellaneous maps, brochures and postcards inside. In Summer, it's generally warm, so I would suggest some light clothing and swimsuit for the beach, but beware! In Chicago, you never...

    Chicago What to Pack

It gets really cold in Chicago in the winter, and I mean *really cold*! You will need a good coat, a hat, gloves, a scarf and anything else to keep wam and out of the wind. During the weekend in December 2008 we visited a bar in downtown Chicago and left around midnight, when we left the bar it was around -15 Celcius, which in itself is pretty cold...

    Chicago What to Pack

If you are just here for a holiday then a suitcase will be fine, if you are going to be travelling on then a backpack is probably better. Also bring a small back or rucksack to carry your day things in ie. down at the lake or park. Two seasons - freezing cold or boiling hot. Generally October-April is the time that you will need very warm clothes...

    Chicago What to Pack

OK, all my other Packing Lists have been dedicated to great music.... so what, you ask, is Chicago's great musical contribution? The world famous Smashing Pumpkins? The poetic and honest Liz Phair? The snotty Screeching Weasel? The brilliant Wilco? Well, close, but they're actually from the St. Louis area. No way, man; I got two words for ya: Naked...

Chicago is called the windy city and the name should speak for itself. There are strong gusts and in the fall/winter/spring it can get downright cold. Bring a windbreaker or some kind of wind proof jacket approiate for the season.

  • HIKING SHOES /BOOTS AND GRUNGY CLOTHES

Good hiking shoes or boots, comfortable clothes that you wouldn't mind getting muddy. In the spring and summer you will probably want insect repellant. Mosquitos can make for a miserable hike. The woods have always been full of whitetail deer. You may want to bring a telephoto lens to zoom in on a deer.

Illinois is a pretty long state, north to south. It depends on where you are going for temperatures and what you should pack. The north end of the state could be buried in snow and the southern part might just have rain. Or in the summer, the north could be mid-70's and the south in the 80's or 90's. And the southern part is kind of swampy too.

Bring as little baggage as possible if coming into O'Hare Airport. Its VERY busy and it takes time to get your luggage. Consider a backpack to carry water and camera and maybe your jacket. Winter....bring WARM clothes. Snow and cold wind. Summer....bring light clothes and maybe a light jacket for the evening winds that come up. There are great...

Bring what you like but if you forget something - don't worry - you can get it here. Dress accordingly to the season you will come here for a visit. We have four seasons in Chicago - with often very humid and hot summers and bitter cold winters at times. Dont wast your luggage space, you can get it here for next to nothing. Bring you photo...

Always bring a jacket and be prepared for the weather to change. The weather in the Chicago area can vary as much as 20 degrees F from the north side to the south side and the precipitation can vary from none to inches while the skies vary from sunny skies to thunder storms. If you do not like the weather-wait 5 minutes and it iwll change. In the...
