Anderson is the county seat of Madison County and is located just east of the center of the state. Anderson has a population of about 60,000. Anderson started as a Delaware Indian Village and was named after Chief William Anderson. Anderson the town was started in 1827.
The county courthouse is located on the Public Square which was part of Chief Anderson's Delaware Village. This is the third courthouse located on this spot. As modern courthouses go, this one is fairly pretty.
