He became the pilot of the first manned Gemini flight (Gemini Mission #3). This capsule is included in the memorial. Because of the mishap with his first mission, the capsule was named 'Molly Brown' after the real-life Molly Brown, who's story had been was playing on broadway 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown' .

Pioneer Village – stroll through this village protected from development by it’s remote location deep in this valley. The village was already in existence in 1832 when the Hamer brothers arrived. The village was renamed Spring Mill. The village has a working Grist Mill, grinding local corn into cornmeal. The Mill office, school and several residences still populate the banks of Mill Creek. In the summer, water drips from the overhead flume adding to the damp coolness of the tree-sheltered community.

Donaldson Cave Nature Preserve located on a spur of trail #4 you’ll hear it or feel it before you see it. Tucked into the cliff face, a pocket of cold air extends outwards into the valley. There is a constant sound of water from the spring located deep inside.
Donaldson Woods Nature Preserve. George Donaldson arrived in 1865 from Scotland and purchased a large tract of woods. He preserved the forest untouched. It remains one of a few tracts of virgin timber over 300 years old. Trail # 3 traverses a wide swath of the preserve.
