 | Bloomington Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 29 | | A restored 150-year-old historic mansion is a great setting for lunch, dinner, or Sunday Brunch. Frankly, I don't normally pay this much and it can be a bit noisy but it is THE place to entertain in Bloomington If you are from Chicago, New York, or Metropolis you will not think the prices expensive -- but for Bloomington I find the food good but not great, the atmosphere noise, and the prices too high. Good wines, though.

One person wants Mediterranean, another wants a hamburger and another just wants something in the breakfast vein. The Trojan Horse to the rescue. A Greek place, but with a college town yet family friendly feel. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: downtown

Mother Bear's was THE pizza place in Bloomington when I was in college. Being poor students (do those exist anymore???), we couldn't afford to eat here often, our typical pizza purchase was the bargain basement Pizza Express that came with four free cokes. When our parents came through town, we would beg for them to take us here. The inside of the restaurant does not seem to have changed at all, the dark wood booths are still in place.
We always ordered the deep dish square pizza with crumbled sausage that came with a dallop of sauce on the top. We stopped here for lunch on our way to French Lick in April, 2004. It didn't taste nearly as good as I remembered, did the pizza used to be better or did it taste so good back then because it was not Pizza Express? Nick's was a place that I only went to once or twice during college, it was expensive by poor college student standards and served alcohol so only folks over 21 (or with fake ids) were allowed in. When I mentioned to Greg (gkitzmil) that we were heading down to French Lick/West Baden, he suggested that we meet him at Nick's, one of his favorite spots, and it was a good choice. Since it was Little 500 weekend, I thought the place would be packed with alums, but we got a table after only waiting a few minutes. Most of the patrons were students, Greg tells me that this is not ordinarily the case, so it was quite loud.
We ordered stromboli's, I got one with crumbled beef and David got one that was like a hot Italian sub. Both were very good. Leave a Comment

This place has a great feel -- the building is really old but the setting is great. Super wine selection and the wine is HALF PRICE on Sunday and Wednesday. Ask for Kelly and tell her Greg from IU sent you. Kelly, Sarah, and Julie are all very nice

Upland Brewery - The area's newest brewery offers beers brewed on site and a variety of unusual entrees. Upland Pale Ale Our American pale ale is a crisp, hoppy beer filled with fruity overtones and dash of sweet malt flavor. American hops lend this beer a citrus-like taste that is extremely refreshing. O.G. 1.052 F.G. 1.014 A/V~5.1% Made of pale and munich malts; Yakima Valley hops. Dragonfly India Pale Ale The Upland IPA is a maltier and hoppier version of our Pale Ale. Note the clean malty fullness on the front of the palate with fruity citrus overtones, attributable to our special hops. Our method of dry hopping creates a floral aroma, and our use of bittering hops lends a strong bitter taste in the back of the tongue and throat. Upland Amber Ale Our American Amber Ale has a malty almond/chocolate taste laced with a lush spicy hop flavor. Creamy body combined with robust maltiness makes this a satisfying beer indeed. O.G. 1.052 F.G. 1.016 A/V~5.0% Malts are pale, munich, 60L and 120L caramel malts. Hops are Yakima Valley American types. Upland Golden Ale Upland introduced this ale in the spring of 1999. A wonderfully original twist to a traditional blonde ale. It boasts a beautiful golden color, slightly sweet nose, and a very soft spiciness derived from using German hops. Bad Elmer's Porter Creamy chocolate flavors combine with a lightly roasted finish and superb body to balance this traditional brown porter. A fragrant malt/hop aroma and herbaceous hop flavor complete this highly drinkable ale. Belgian Wheat Ale A classic rendering of Belgian wit, this ale is light on the tongue and easy going. Our Wheat Ale is made with 50% wheat malt and spiced with coriander and curacao orange peel. O.G. 1.046 F.G. 1.010 A/V~4.9% Malts are 2-Row and White Wheat. Hops are from Hallertauer lineage with 5 herbs/spices including heather.
