Bartholomew County Courthouse
Basaic Says:
The Bartholomew County Courthouse was built in 1871 from a design by Isaac Hodgson using the French Rennaisance Style of architecture with some French Second Empire aspects. The county was named for a famed Indian military man General Joseph Bartholomew, who was wounded in...
Drinking By the River
kevkeviee Says:
Local convinience shops are very helpful to sell booze. I prefer to keep the booze in a paper bag. This way people don't know if I am drinking booze or drinking apple juice. Many assume apple juice, I believe. I prefer to sit by the river to drink the booze because I can...
New Brownsville Covered Bridge
Toughluck Says:
Located down along the Flatrock River, just before it joins with the Driftwood River to form the East Fork of the White River is a wonderful city park. Mill Run Park covered the flood plain of these three rivers. In the spring, the waters will rise and some if not a lot of...
Irwin Home and Gardens
sambarnett Says:
In 1910 architect Wendell Phillips of Boston designed this home for William Irwin, a local banker, industrialist and philanthropist. The highlight is the garden, a beautiful maze based on the Casa degli Innamorati in Pompeii. It is open to the public on spring, summer and...
Bartholomew County Veterans Memorial
sambarnett Says:
Do not miss this moving tribute to those who lost their lives in conflicts of the 20th century. It also reminds us what the ultimate achievement of war really is: the destruction of the sanctity of family. Twenty-five, 40-foot limestone columns contain the...
Bartholomew County Courthouse
sambarnett Says:
Built in 1874, the Bartholomew County Courthouse suposedly was the first fireproof building in Indiana. That hasn't stopped many renovations over the years, including a copper top added in 1954 to replace a slate roof. A distinctive Indiana courthouse, this...
Columbus Inn: Columbus Inn
sambarnett Says:
Those looking for fine surrounds, regardless of price might want to consider the Columbus Inn, housed in the old City Hall building. Rates start around $100 a night. What are the rooms like? I don't know, I can't afford places like this! Nice building though. The public can...
Columbus Bar: Nice local place
Helpfulness

A nice local bar and grill with a good menu and relaxed atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: I only had drinks and appetizers, but the place is known for its huge (and cheap) pork tenderloin sandwiches and its garlic coleslaw. The friend who was with me that day really wanted to try the latter. Fortunately he took a pass for my sake. He has a tendancy toward flatulance.

Commons-Courthouse Center: Even the mall here is cool!
Unfortunately I have no pictures, but this looked like what a shopping experience should be. Very open, lots of interesting features and lean towards local stores. Don't miss the very interesting sculpture Chaos I&b

"Large Arch" sculpture
sambarnett Says:
Located in front of the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library, Henry Moore, then 77 years old, created this great piece in 1971 using the concept of "primitive simplicity." Although Moore intended it to resemble a human torso, locals have given it a nickname based on what they think...
Cleo Rogers Memorial Library
sambarnett Says:
Designed by I.M. Pei in 1969, skylights, foliage and location are meant to enhance a quiet and dignified environment. Cleo Rogers was the head of the Columbus Public Library system from 1934 - 1964.
The Public Library
yooperprof Says:
It's pretty unusual for a town in the middle of Indiana to have a public library that was designed by I.M. Pei!
Visit the Courthouse Mall. It...
pamelajoy Says:
Visit the Courthouse Mall. It reminds me of the clock tower in the movie, 'Back to the Future.' Columbus has some of the most innovative and beautiful architecture I've ever seen in a city of it's size.
When my children were small, we used to go to the Courthouse and play...
