    Lew Wallace's Study

by Toughluck Updated Apr 20, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

General Lew Wallace wrote his famous novel Ben-Hur. His personal library is in the heart of Crawfordsville, at the Ben-Hur museum a National Historic Landmark. The grounds were a pleasant break on our trip. Shady, quiet, just the kind of place a person could write a book. It's a nice break and if you've seen the old Charleton Heston (1959) movie "Ben Hur", you might find the study interesting. For more images, see my Ben Hur travelogue.

If you're interested in old homes and their furnishings, Lane Place may be the place to visit. Lane was the founder of the Republican Party in Indiana an a Governor. His home is restored, but since we didnt' visit inside, I can't tell you much about it.

Milligan Park - pool, golf, frisbee golf!

    by squidly2 Updated Mar 31, 2006

    Great playgrounds, wonderful pool...
There's no better way to spend a sunny day in C-ville than at Milligan Park.
Day-use for the Olympic sized pool is $3, and there are diving boards and a huge slide.
The park itself is free, can't beat it for picnics!
Check the bottom of the website for frisbee golf details, it's free too!

    Strawberry Festival

    by squidly2 Written Mar 31, 2006

Every year in June, the town holds a big ol' Strawberry Festival. It's probably what you'd expect from a small town festival, but it's a big deal in these parts!!
It's held on the beautiful grounds of "Lane Place", home of a 19th century US Senator.
    The 2006 festival is June 9, 10 ,11.
