General Lew Wallace wrote his famous novel Ben-Hur. His personal library is in the heart of Crawfordsville, at the Ben-Hur museum a National Historic Landmark. The grounds were a pleasant break on our trip. Shady, quiet, just the kind of place a person could write a book. It's a nice break and if you've seen the old Charleton Heston (1959) movie "Ben Hur", you might find the study interesting. For more images, see my Ben Hur travelogue.

Every year in June, the town holds a big ol' Strawberry Festival. It's probably what you'd expect from a small town festival, but it's a big deal in these parts!!
It's held on the beautiful grounds of "Lane Place", home of a 19th century US Senator.
The 2006 festival is June 9, 10 ,11.
