Local rumor says that the dog imortalized in this statue ran into the street to save a small child from being run over by a car. The dog was crushed and it's begrieved owner had this memorial made. Another tale says the actual corpse of the dog is inside the statue. It is located in a front yard on the west side of Court St, somewhere between South and Greenwood.

A tradition since 1852. If you're anywhere near the area in August be sure to stop by the Lake County Fair. I used to hate coming here for the very same reasons I know love it: a interesting mix of people (some of them downright bizarre), the blaring Midway, 4-H displays galore. Not to mention the demo derbies, horse shows (chicks on horses are HOT!!!!), great food and lots of mud and manure.

Ever wonder what the time and temperature are? Well, if you're in Crown Point (or anywhere else in Lake County except Hobart) you can call 663-0123 and find out. If you accidentally dial the 662 exchange you'll get an auto repair shop. I'm sure they must get tired of fielding wrong numbers, but they're usually very pleasant about it.
