Built in 1898 this Romanesque Revival structure stands abandon with a hope for a revival. Many want this building, whose alumni includes James Dean and Garfield creator Jim Davis, protected. But just what to do with it? no one seems to know.

The modest resting place of a young man who burned out, head on, and will never fade away. James Dean is buried next to his parents, on top of a hill in this small cemetery.

Also part of the J. D. Festival in September, they have a look alike contest. It's fun, great fun, there are maybe a dozen guys, pretending they look like Jimmy Dean, coming from all over the US and sometimes from abroad.
They have a jury, the crowd cheer and shout, until one of them is the winner... Not necessarily the one the crowd likes best or the one looking like Jimmy :-)

Every year in late September, around the anniversary of Jimmy's death, they celebrate a huge J.D. Festival in Fairmount. And part of it is an incredible vintage car show... I guess there are about 2000 old cars! All types, all colors, all being polised all the time by their proud owners, and photographed by the visitors. Awesome!
