    The good citizens of Elkhart County didn't want their community to be a refuge for disreputable types from Chicago, so they contstructed this booth in the center of Goshen to monitor traffic along U.S. 33, (the Lincoln Highway), which at that time was one of the most important east-way thoroughfares across the U.S.

    Fearing a bank raid by the likes of John Dillinger, this WPA built police booth was constructed in 1939 to protect two downtown banks. It was manned until 1969.
