Beautiful home that once housed an art school. I visited during a slow time and they provided me with a tour even though I was the only person there. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the families and the house.
I spend most of my time visiting family, but places worthy to note are: 1) Indianapolis Zoo - nice, clean, spacious, and I've never seen it crowded. 1200 W. Washington. www.indyzoo.com. 2) Children's Museum - they've done a great job with this museum, with many hands-on play areas and various themed sections. 3000 N. Meridian St. www.childrensmuseum.org. 3) Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Museum - if you want to see a race, order your tickets very early; car nuts will enjoy the museum. 4790 W. 16th St. www.indyracing.com or www.automuseum.com. 4) Union Station and downtown has lots of places to party.
This walking path follows an old reconstructed canal path through downtown Indianapolis. The trail and canal start at the Indiana State Museum in White River State Park.
The Indiana State Capital is an immense structure but not as ornate as many state capitols, part of this is due to that its hemmed in by downtown Indy.
The Colts are the professional football team in Indianapolis and play in the RCA Dome. If you get the opportunity to see a game, please do.
MY WIFE'S FAVORITE MOVIE IS "HOOSIERS," and so this is a special place for her because the scenes of the Indiana state championship game were filmed here.
This botanical gardens is adjacent to the zoo and admission is available for a small ($1) addition to the zoo admission.
Fittingly enough, along Washington St. you will see the statue of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789-1797). I don't think I need to explain anything about him.
Although Indiana isn't a big football place, the Colts are a great team and you can catch their games at the RCA Dome, which is right downtown within walking distace of everything.
