We had stopped in Shipshewana for dinner, but the Farm House was right next to the restaurant, and seeing some of the oak furniture and crafts inside, we had to go in for a look. Exceptional furniture can be purchased here, in oak and cherry. There are many peices to decorate your home with real country accents.
Worth a peek inside.
What to buy: One thing we found interesting was the selection of wall clocks available. From animated clowns dancing to circus music at each chime (very appealing to a clown like me) to a cat and dog chase. The had so many clocks, each with it's own detail and "story" and music to add to their whimsy.
What to pay: Prices are reasonable. The clock I liked was around $500.00. Great price for the quality of merchandise.
When I visit with my husband, he is never interested in going into any of the shops so this was the 1st time I had ever been into anything besides the shop next to the restaurant at Essenhaus. There are six additional shops selling items for the home, clothes, and gifts plus a store selling beautiful (and expensive!) handmade quilts and supplies to make quilts. Plus those creepy faceless dolls.
The shop next to the restaurant sells many of the items they serve in the restaurant including the salad dressing, noodles, bread, pies, Amish style peanut butter, apple butter and a variety of other baked goods and gift baskets.
What to buy: I always find it hard to leave empty handed, the baked goods are always delicious and I love their sweet and sour dressing. The peanut butter is good too, we think that it is peanut butter mixed with either syrup or honey.
New shop, with lots of variety. Postcards, kitchen utensils, quality furniture and easy access.
What to buy: Large selection of old prints from large size magazines and maps.
What to pay: Most prices are within reason. One postcard booth had $1.00 postcards (good price) but they were not sorted.
Best described as a bit of everything from Amish Country. This modern 3-story building houses nearly a dozen different stores, each with it's own unique merchandise. The main floor includes a restaurant that is always busy and popcorn with carmel smells.
