The Sycamore Farms B&B: Bed and Breakfast

by kyoub Updated Apr 4, 2011

    Bed and Breakfast

Our very favorite place to have lunch is in the tea room of the Sycamore Bed and Breakfast. It is in an old restored farm house. They have 3 room that are used for dining. Two are filled with lovely antiques and the third is a sunporch that has a lot of windows so one can look out in the garden while enjoying your meal.
We have celebrated many birthdays and Mother's Day here.
I was so sad to see a for sale sign posted in front on our last visit.

Favorite Dish: My very favorite thing here is the bread. They make delicious homemade herb rolls daily.
The salads are very nice also and the desserts are worth blowing your diet on.

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Market Bella Rosa , is an artsy type of deli with wonderful sandwiches and pasta Their bread is handmade and among the best in Terre Haute.

Favorite Dish: I always have the hummus and bean sprout sandwich. They have plenty to satisfy us vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
The pumpkin muffins are pretty good also.

    Exotic Thai: Curry is hot

by kyoub Written May 15, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Don't get it on your dress

Curry is hot at Exotic Thai. In more ways than one.
    Exotic Thai Restaurant is the
    Wabash Valley's best international cuisine.
It is the only Thai restaurant in town and seems to be doing well since it opened in 2003.
We have had many meals there and always leave satisfied after having the mango and sticky rice for dessert.
One time we tried the saki but never again.

First Wok: Best Chinese in Town

by JanaBanana Written Dec 6, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have to second the opinion of my fellow Virtual Traveler, who praised First Wok. Not only is the atmosphere nice, with all of the local Chinese college students dining inside, but the food is great, the portions are nice, and the price for lunch specials is awesome! For about $3.50 you get an entree, rice, and your choice of soup or crab rangoon (both are excellent!).

Favorite Dish: I love the Beef & Brocolli and the Cashew Chicken. I havne't been brave enough to try any others dishes yet.

Mathias Mogger came from Germany and started this Brewery in Terre Haute. The back of the old brewery building is now a restaurant with fine food plus a great world and US beer collection. Great beer in a great atmosphere.

Coffee Grounds: Good Cafe & Coffee House

by DSwede Written Sep 26, 2012
    At the Grounds

The Coffee Grounds has been in town for many years, it has become a landmark location. It is a meeting point for many, a study hall for others and still a place to get your caffeine fix with a bite to eat. The inside is typically quiet for those looking to study or catch up on their reading and although it is popular, there are typically a few tables always available. Lots of local artists also advertise their artwork on the walls.

Favorite Dish: Obviously the coffee is the typical item, but I'm personally a fan of the fresh fruit smoothies. They are delicious. They also have a fairly good selection of muffins, cookies and sandwiches. They have breakfast sandwiches (bagels and croissants) with choices of egg, bacon, ham, etc.

Umi Grill: Best Sushi in Town

by DSwede Written Oct 9, 2012

Terre Haute does not often get to boast of ethnic foods and variable spice palates. However time passes and the little hamlet becomes a little more cosmopolitan every day. With that change you get places like Umi Grill. It is the best sushi in town and if you ask any local they will all agree and point you to the same place.

The outside of the restaurant is unimpressive, set back off the side of a busy roadway. However inside, it is quiet with nice ambiance and an authentic touch. There are tables in the open area, but also private booths which often need reservations during busy dinner hours.

Favorite Dish: Everything I've had here is good. The spicy tuna and dragon roll are among my favorites. The maki, sushi and sashimi are all fresh. I'm told that the restaurant also operates as a fish market during select hours so there is a high turn over which keeps the fish fresh.

Panda Garden: Highly Recommened Chinese Food

    by Orange_traveller Written Apr 7, 2008

I am not at all Chinese but I love Chinese food so much! This is the place to go to in Terre Haute! Its clean and is owned by a Chinese family whose mother used to cook for one of China's royal families. There are no buffet style meals here. The food is very tasty and you can ask the waiter to cook you something that is not in the menu if you have something particular in mind. Everyone is friendly and this is a children friendly restaurant. My family always order hot and sour soup, fried rice, orange chicken, whatever fish they have is good too. You can call ahead of time to order your food.

MCL Cafeteria: Delicious food, good prices, nice atmosphere

by bigredlancer Written Aug 10, 2007

We stop at MCL Meadows at 25th & Poplar in Terre Haute every year as we cruise in our van from the Mojave Desert to visit friends and relatives all the way to Akron, Ohio. The restaurant is cafeteria-style, but very nice with a clientele of family-type folks. No rowdies, just people who know where to get excellent family-style food at reasonable prices in a restful environment. Wait staff is friendly and helpful. There is an order-and-pick up area for those who wish to eat at home and maybe bring food for any house-bound relatives. Or for a picnic at Deming Park!

Favorite Dish: Real mashed potatoes, great vinegar coleslaw, some different foods daily plus the usual favorites. I love the pork chops and roast turkey! Cakes and pies are real, not pudding and cool-whip...
