Brown County Winery

It was just my opinion, but the wines were mediocre and the staff really didn't seem very pleased to see us. Go to the local grocery store and pick up a bottle of good wine. All the red white and blue ribbons in the world won't hide an acidic aftertaste. Have an ice cream, have a hot dog...

Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure

I should have known this was a tourist trap when I saw more than four signs, one eighty miles away. I shuld have known, should have known, should have known. They bill themselves as a dairy adventure, where you can see cheese made, cows milked, and enjoy freshly made dairy products. The place falls flat, of course. The dairy products were mediocre, and even the ice cream lacked flavor. The sandwiches were OK, and you could see calves born every hour or so, which is unique. They have a trampoline and a children's train ride, and this is all OK. However, they want TEN DOLLARS a head to enter! Definitely does not deliver! Like I said, the sandwiches are OK, or at least the reuben used frsh sauerkraut. This is located off of exit 220 on I-65. This exit must be new because it wasn't in my road atlas, which is fairly new itself. Therefore, there isn't much of a roadside oasis at this exit,...

crowds and cheap socks!

The Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County Indiana reportedly greets 2 MILLION people per year. While there are approx. 32 covered bridges in this area and they are interesting if that is your pleasure go anytime BUT the festival. 1) if you like flea markets you'll want to go anyway -- to "Mansfield, Indiana" a town that seems to exist to host this flea market. Lots of 'fair food' and cheap socks. 2) for small town festivals - you may still want to go anyway, but make Rockville, IN your headquarters. Food and booths especially in the town center. But go early on a weekend. Perhaps this barely qualifies as a tourist trap because the folks of Parke County (1) will try to help you find the experience YOU want http://www.coveredbridges.com/and (2) know a good thing economically so are going to continue the flea market. Just be aware that though there are buses to take you to the bridges...
