Gary

by traveldave

Gary is a city located in extreme northwestern Indiana. The city is actually a suburb of Chicago, which is just across the state line in neighboring Illinois. Much of downtown Gary consists of burned out, dilapidated buildings and, aside from a few casinos on the lakefront, there is little to attract visitors. Anyone traveling to Gary should be aware that the city has been rated the fifth most dangerous city in the United States and has the highest murder rate in the nation.

Surface water is great fun, think before you leap

by Toughluck

Natural lakes and streams offer a variety of recreational opportunties. But they all come with a risk Surface waters like Lake Michigan are the home of many varities of fish. It's a great place (apparently) to go fishing. But it's also the place where the fish leave their body waste, including dead bodies when they die. But the visible stuff is not the real problem. It's the invisible stuff. Like many places, there are many large and small towns. Each has a complex sanitary system to treat human waste from the homes, business' and factories along the shore. Again. it remains out of the local waters, (lake & streams). It remains, mostly, out of the lakes until it rains. Town sewer systems often are unable to handle the waste and rain water and there is a 'combined sewage overflow', CSO for short. In this case, the waste is sent out into the nearby stream. If you're healthy and the water...

Trump should be ashamed.....

by Jabberjenn

If you want to spend an evening in a crowded, smoke-filled casino, receive horrible service, and surround yourself with ex-convicts, then you must make a trip to the Trump Casino in Indiana! Now trust me, I really do like the casino scene. I have been to Vegas a million times, and grew up in Jersey, so have also experienced Atlantic City a trillion times. This casino in Indiana, however, is an absolute joke. There are very few table games, the drink service is basically non-existant, and the clientele is about the same as what you would find down a garbage-ridden side alley in the slums of Detroit. There is very little (if any) air circulation, so the cigarette smoke actually forms an ever-present cloud that prevents you from seeing 20 feet in front of yourself.Don't even waste your time in this dump. Donald Trump should be ashamed to have his name associated with this casino.

THERE ARE ALOT OF DEER OUT HERE. SO YOU HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR THEM WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. THEY CAN REALLY, REALLY MESS UP YOUR CAR AND YOU.ALSO THERE ARE CERTAIN AREAS YOU ARE BETTER OFF STAYING AWAY FROM. SUCH AS GARY, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE AREA YOU COULD GET YOURSELF INTO TROUBLE. ALSO CERTAIN PARTS OF MICHIGAN CITY AREN'T TO SAFE. YOUR BEST BET IS CHESTERTON AND VALPARAISO

Watch out for deer on the roads.Skunks should be avoided too but they won't demolish your car like a deer will. Indiana may be the pollen capital of the world. If you suffer from allergies the fall of the year can be miserable. In the summertime the heat and humidity can become extremely uncomfortable.

The interstate surrounding the...

by Moishka

The interstate surrounding the city of Indianapolis is one huge and severe trap. The signage telling you how to get where you need to to get where you want to is very poor and you might find yourself going in one very long circle around this city for hours like I did more than once when I went over there. Sure, I may not have been paying too close attention. it happened several times, so, I do not think this is a viable excuse! Besides, ;-), I am a genius! :-P

by dzni

What do they have in Indiana, folks? Corns, cows, and a few people... I DON'T think you have anything to worry about! :) Maybe having your car break down on the interstate? Naww... even then there's still plenty of towns between exits! ;)

Watch out for the city busses,...

by Cactus140

Watch out for the city busses, they can't seem to see pedestrians. Don't stop in the middle of the street, to see where you are!!! This sounds funny, but I don't know how many times I have almost hit someone switching lanes for no reason, or just coming to a stop at an intersection. If you are lost, pull over and ask someone, this isn't New York, you won't be robbed for asking!

Indiana is a Very Close Second to Ohio for Speed Limitlaws being STRICTLY Enforced.Southern and CentralIndiana seems to be very relaxed but not across NorthernIndiana...Stay at the Speed Limit on the Indiana Tollroad.I also recommend staying as far away as possible fromthe Gary Area because of the always High Crime rate.
