Creston is a town of almost 8000 *up 4% since 2000) located along US Highway 34 in Southern Iowa not far from the border with Missouri. Creston started in 1868 as a camp for the Burlington and Missouri Railroad and rapidly grew as a railroad center. The name was derived from the fact the town was at the "crest" of the railroad. Creston is the county seat of Union County.
