What you wear really depends on when your coming. In the summer it is extremely hot and humid so you won't want to wear much. In the winter it can be brutally cold. Ahhh... I love the weather in Iowa. Leave a Comment

by SheDragon Posted December 2000: If you are coming here this winter...pack as many sets of clothing as you can and wear them all at once!!! Over the past few weeks our average temperature has been about 5-10F. Girls, bring moisturizer or dry out like a prune! Since there's nothing around to slow it down, the wind gets pretty nasty sometimes, and the wind chill gets down to around -30-40F on a regular basis, so make sure you have as little skin showing as possible! Basically...right now in Des Moines...it's just DANG COLD!!!!! :)
'When Pigs Fly' is when I'll be caught outside in Des Moines in winter wearing anything less than two layers of clothing, a warm winter coat, a scarf, two pairs of socks under heavy snow boots, and two pairs of gloves! Leave a Comment

by SheDragon Posted Summer 2000 - The weather around here changes fast...sometimes in a matter of hours. So far, this summer has been fairly stable, but when I visited last fall, I packed for a warm weekend. Friday was hot and humid, Saturday morning was comfortable, and by Saturday afternoon it was cold and windy. If I remember correctly, it rained a bit on Sunday, as well. Basically, it is nearly impossible to prepare for the weather here, at least not without spending a small fortune. But, if you insist, remember your umbrella, windbreaker, winter coat, shorts, and tornado shelter.
Nearly everything is available here if you go to Walgreen's. Walgreen's is open 24 hours (well, the one on Ingersoll Ave is, and that's the one I go to) and has just about everything you could possibly want.
