The Mississippi River is beautiful seen from the Bluffs of Dubuque. You can see the river winding its way through the valley. It is every bit as beautiful a river, as the the Potomac ,as seen from George Washington's Mount Vernon.
Dubuque has some interesting buildings along Main Street. This tower is just a block or two from the visitor's center. There are a couple other buildings just past the tower. One old building was reminescent of one that I saw in Chicago.
This is "Lock #11". The locks, which start up in Minnesota, are numbered 1,2,3, etc. all the way down to St. Louis (at which point there is a different system used). As mentioned in the intro, there were many Bald Eagles gathered here given the open water.
The lock is nearby Eagle Point park.
Lock & Dam in Dubuque. There are lots of Bald Eagles circling and diving for food. The river isn't frozen by the lock and dam so it is a great place to view the bald eagles.
A beautiful old home built by the industrialist
Ryan. It is currently owned by the historical society.
We visited the Mississippi Aquarium.
Awesome is the only word to describe it!!!
Unbelievabe! It is a must see!!
