    Old Capitol Mall

by atufft Written Mar 20, 2011

This is an indoor mall that has suffered an economic downturn, as many vendor shops are now occupied by the university. Nevertheless this is the central shopping hub of Iowa City, as the Transit System occupies one end of the building too. There are several souvenir shops and bookstores here, along with a variety of corporate fast food outlets. During a winter blizzard, this is the best place to get away from the weather.

Central Iowa Artist Coop: Midwest Artwork on Display

by atufft Written Mar 20, 2011

This store includes a lot of folk art, blown glass, jewelry, fine art, and other art from not only Iowa, but other parts of the USA. I purchased, at a price, very nicely painted wood art that will hang nicely in our kitchen or bathroom. Prices aren't cheap, but then this is a very nice collection of quality art, not a kitsch souvenir shop.

Coral Ridge Mall: If malls are your style...

by jodssmile Updated Jan 21, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Coral Ridge Mall is Iowa's largest mall.
It is geered more to a younger crowd (college age and young teens).
It has your typical department stores plus a large food court, carousel, play place for toddlers and indoor ice skating rink (rent skates from the rink-have young kids wear bike helmets if not used to skating alot. Wear pants).

What to buy: Has basic general store such as Younkers, Dillards, JC Penny, Sears, Target, Best Buy,
as well as Children's Museum, Indoor Ice Skating Rink, Movie Theater, Gap, Gap for Kids, Anne Klein, Barnes & Noble (with Starbucks), Scheels, Tuxedo Shop, The Childrens place, Strideright, Ritz Camera, 2 places to get nails done, 2 differnent sport clothing stores, large foodcourt by skating rink, indoor caroseul, Bennigans, many Trinket shops, Shop for foreign clothes (clothes for people from India),
Navy Pier, Acroombie and Fitch, Build-a-Bear, Verizon, U.S. Cellular, Laser miniature golf, ice cream and pretzel and popcorn snack stores, many many more clothing stores (many aimed at College aged group).

What to pay: varies what you need.
Average with sales tax of 7%.
In Iowa, in August before kids go to school, there is one no tax day in all of Iowa on any school item (clothes, backpack, school supplies as listed and on paper that day in any store). But busy day for shopping. Weekends at this mall can be crowded, especially in colder time of year.
